BDB Scandal! German Heavyweight Erkan Teper Caught Using Illegal Substances
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Berlin, Germany (December 24th, 2015)– German media outlet Bayerischer Rundfunk has broken a scandal wide open which promises to forever change the trust foreign boxers have traveling to Germany. Top 20 worldwide ranked heavyweight Erkan Teper, 14-0, nine knockouts, Ahlen, Germany, has been caught using illegal substances, and his recent knockout win over David Price in July 2015 for the EBU European Heavyweight title has now been changed to a No-Contest.
However it found out, whoever its ‘source’, Bayerischer Rundfunk revealed in the media a post fight urine sample Teper provided after his devastating knockout win over David Price, which came back positive for an illegal substance. Despite the post fight result in July 2015, the BDB German boxing authority which oversaw the fight did not publicly acknowledge the failed test, and Teper was not punished for the drug offense, clear evidence of blatant favoritism for the German fighter, and casting doubt over all other winning German fighters in Germany as well.
It also came to light Teper had previously failed a test following his EBU title winning efforts against Newfel Ouatah in 2014. That result as yet to be changed to No-Contest. German authorities uncovered a stash of various forms of performance enhancing drugs in a raid of the fighter’s car and hotel room. Due to the findings, criminal charges may be brought shortly against the undefeated 33-year-old Teper.
Teper now faces a time ban in Germany from pro boxing. British heavyweight David Price, in addition to his bout with Teper, must now confront the revelation American heavyweight Tony Thompson also failed the post fight drug test in their rematch in August 2013 in Liverpool, England. That result has not yet been voided, but it could be soon.
Thanks to the efforts of German media outlet Bayerischer Rundfunk, five months after Tepper knocked out David Price, the BDB changed the outcome of Teper’s EBU heavyweight title bout with Price to ‘No-Contest’. Many boxing experts felt the BDB should have disqualified Teper and declared Price the winner-and want to know why the BDB has engaged in a cover up. How many others also tested positive for illegal substances by the BDB and got away with it? David Price’s promoter Kalle Sauderland called for Erkan Teper to be banned from professional boxing. European pro boxing has hit an all-time low.
