Say A Prayer for Hamzah Aljahmi
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
He came off the canvas three times in the first round
And bravely battled on.
He won the second and the third rounds
His professional debut still not won.
As he battled Anthony Taylor in Youngstown, Ohio,
Who also debuted and wanted to win
The fourth round would tell the story
Of a Heart of gold, and a soul of unbreakable tin.
In the fourth round
Bantamweight Hamzah Aljahmi fell
His knees giving way at the final bell.
Down without a count, and still out
Never to hear the result of his bout.
To the hospital he went
His life in a haze
In a coma he fell
For another three days.
Anthony Taylor, who won
Came to be with Aljahmi and his family from night to sun
After surgery and struggle, the will to live tired
Hamzah Aljahmi then expired.
In Ohio, Anthony Taylor might not want to go back to the gym, his life light dim.
There was another fighter from Youngstown long ago who fought Duk Koo Kim.
Ray ‘Boom-Boom’ Mancini looked for Anthony Taylor. He wanted to talk to him.
A Yemeni has died
Far from the waters of the Red Sea
The soul will part and the spirit is free.
Say a Prayer for Hamzi Aljahmi.
