Get Out of Jail Free! Eric Walker Upsets Chris Pearson on Premier Boxing Champions

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Eric Walker (also known as Eric Johnson) spent 13 years between ages 16 and 29 in prison, and then resumed his boxing career. In three years, at age 32, he has done the impossible.

On Friday December 18, 2015, at Palms Casino Resort, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Premier Boxing Champions, Walker, Plaquemine, Louisiana, also known as ‘The Baby Faced Assassin’, remained undefeated as a junior middleweight at 12-0 with six knockouts, winning an eight round unanimous decision over 13-0 Al Haymon southpaw prospect Chris Pearson of Trotwood, Ohio. The scoring was not close in what emerged as the likely 2015 Premiere Boxing Champions ‘Fight of the Year’. Walker outboxed Pearson most rounds.

Al Haymon’s prospects are not as indestructible and invulnerable as Haymon’s reputation would qualify. Rather, Haymon has truly sought the best matchups for his fighters to see if his signed fighters have what it takes, in the process also giving other outsider prospects and fighters a fair chance to win. No promoter, including Al Haymon, has a monopoly on the win in the ring. It must be earned, some have ‘it’, and some don’t. That’s the story.

Result: Eric Walker Win 8 Christopher Pearson, Junior Middleweights

Scoring:   80-72, 79-71, 78-74 for Walker. Referee: Robert Byrd
