A frequent question I entertain as a sports reporter is what was the worst or most ridiculous boxing match ever held? My response has not to do with ability, but with size. The late basketball player Manute Bol (1962-2010), skinny and springy, stood seven feet, seven inches tall, and weighed 206 pounds. He played pro basketball from 1985 to 1996 after getting drafted out of the University of Bridgeport. His h eight held certain advantage. He blocked more shots than he scored in his pro career, ranking fifteenth all-time on the NBA blocked shots list for a pro career. He has a 6’11’ 15 year old son now being recruited by college basketball powerhouses.

William ‘The Refrigerator’ Perry (born 1962) played pro football from 1985 to 1996, and was most noted for his weight. He stands six feet, two inches tall, and weighed 335 pounds in his prime. Perry set new precedents for goal line defenses because of his incredible size.

On May 2, 2002, Bol faced Perry in a celebrity boxing exhibition match. Donations were earmarked for the Ring True Foundaiton of the Sudan during the match to benefit Bol’s home country. The three rounds Bol and Perry boxed were insane, if only for the size differential. A refrigerator cannot catch a fast quick rabbit. That is my entire answer. You can watch the video at the link provided to watch this crazy matchuip. The size differential in a real match (not an exhibiton) would prove too much too overcome, in the sense the weight is too much for a short fighter to bear against a skinnier opponent. Remember Nicolai Valuev of Russia was a tall heavyweight champion in the more recent modern era. He stands seven feet and 320 pounds, giving his size a more equal weight distribution.
