Las Vegas, NV (November 23, 2015)– Miguel Cotto (40-5, 33KOs) disagrees with the outcome of Saturday’s fight at the at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. Cotto lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, who picked up the WBC middleweight title with the victory.
The official scores were announced as 117-111, 119-109 and 118-110. Victor Garcia of Real Combat Media who was ringside said the majority of the press felt the scoring was scored at too wide of a margin.
Cotto did not attend the post fight press conference. His trainer Freddie Roach was present and gave his thoughts on the contest.
Roach felt his boxer did enough to get the win by “outscoring” Canelo and blocking many punches.
When Cotto returned to Puerto Rico on Sunday, he told reporters that he should have received the decision.
He felt the scoring should have been 116-112 in his favor and felt very disappointed by the scorecards.
“When you have the opportunity to master eight of the twelve rounds, you do not expect anything less than victory,” Cotto told Primera Hora.
