Golovkin Defeats Lemieux Via 8th Round TKO.

New York, NY (October 17, 2015) –In a high anticipated firework show, the high sensation, Gennady Golovkin defeated David Lemieux, by an 8th round stoppage. The fight was televised on HBO PPV, at the Madison Square Garden in New York, New York. It was the first time ever Golovkin headlined a main event on PPV.
Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (34-0, 31 KOs) native of Kazakhstan, filled the Garden on Saturday night, in his most difficult match-up ever, facing the Canadian brawler David Lemieux (34-3, 21 KOs).
From the announcement of the fight, the boxing world knew what these two fighters would bring to the table on fight night. Golovkin, a KO artist- is a huge fan favorite who brings the fight to his opponent with heavy artillery. Lemieux is not far behind and is also a big knockout puncher.
In a packed house at the Garden and with both fighter’s titles on the line, the two men squared off in the center of the ring at the sound of the bell
In the first round, Golovkin opens up with working the jab on Lemieux. Lemieux being the smaller fighter, was having a difficult time with coming in and avoiding the slick jab of GGG. Golovkin then mixed in the hooks with his jabs and connected beautifully.
As the fight progressed, Lemieux continued to try to get inside of Golovkin, which he did in some occasions, but the slick jab Golovkin kept connecting right down the pipe, which kept Lemieux on his heels. Golovkin began working more with power punches behind the jab which showed the dominance Golovkin was having over the Canadian.
Right when Lemieux was able to finally connect more on Golovkin, with some nice hooks to the head, Golovkin responded with the best punch of the fight so far- a beautiful left hook that wobbled Lemieux. David was able to keep his composure, but was definitely hurt by that devastating punch.
Fifth round was looking good for Lemieux. David landed a hard right hand on Golovkin that looked promising with becoming a success. However, Golovkin quickly stepped it up and responded with a mean left hook to the body of Lemieux, which made David to drop on his knee and Golovkin was awarded the first knockdown of the night.
The sixth round was probably the best round for Lemieux. He became more affective as he was more willing to pressure Golovkin with wild punches that did connect. Golovkin looked slower than the earlier rounds which was an advantage for Lemieux as he threw fury of punches.
Round eight was the decisive one. Lemieux did connect a few punches, but Golovkin’s power and the nice well put jabs, was too much for David. Golovkin kept connecting on Lemieux with mean power punches, which forced referee Steve Willis to stop the fight.
Gennady Golovkin stays undefeated, and adds the IBF middleweight title to his collection.
After the fight, Lemieux said, “I’ll meet him in the near future.” He also said, “I’ll keep my mouth shut, but I will see him in the future.”
Golovkin also said, “My goal is all the belts in the middleweight division.”
When asked about Canelo and Cotto, he said, “Both are two big champions, and I want to meet with who wins.”
Gonzales vs Viloria
Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez defeats the great Brian Viloria, in a ninth round TKO.
The two warriors were the co-main event of the night, and gave the fans a great matchup. The toe-to-toe fight was excitement from start to finish.
Chocolatito finished Viloria in the ninth round, but Viloria gave Gonzalez a one helluva a fight. Both fighters brought their all Saturday night and left the ring with their head up high.
Chocolatito Gonzalez improves his record to 44-0 with 38 KOs, and proves why he deserves to be in the P4P list as he dominates the flyweight division.
