Alicia Ashley Bids to Become 48 Year Old WBC World Champion Tonight

Brooklyn, NY (October 29th, 2015)– Alicia Ashley is probably the oldest fighter since heavyweight Mitch Green to be sanctioned in New York State to fight. Ashley, the former female World Boxing Council Super Bantamweight champion, will attempt tonight, Thursday, October 29, 2015, to regain her WBC world title at age 48. Even Bernard Hopkins has not regained a title at this advanced age, so it is a historic event. Ashley is favored to win by ten round unanimous decision.
Ashley, a Jamaican southpaw out of Brooklyn, New York, 22-10-1 with four knockouts, will go to technical war against 7-0 interim WBC World Super Bantamweight champion Christiana McMahon of Monaghan, Ireland, in the ten round main event at Aviator Sports Complex in Brooklyn, New York, promoted by Dmitriy Salita Promotions.
In the preliminary bout to the main event, 13-0 Nicolay Potapov, a bantamweight from Podalsk, Russia, will face hot and cold Pedro Melo of Tijuana, Mexico, whose record is a deceiving 13-10-2. Melo fought last August in an eight rounder in California for the WBC Latino title against 18-1 Carlos Carlson, and lost controversially by one point on all three scorecards. Potapov is favored to win by decision in what will be the ‘Fight of the Night.
An 8-0 Kazakhstan super welterweight prospect, Bakhtiyar Eyubov, is favored to win by early round knockout over 30 bout veteran trial horse Antonio Fernandez of Brockton, Massachusetts. Puerto Rican cruiserweight Emilio Salas, 3-1-1, is favored to win by four round decision over 3-2 Tracey Johnson of Boston, Massachusetts. Soviet Georgian 2-0 super lightweight prospect Giorgi Gelashvili of Brooklyn, New York, is favored to win by four round decision over 4-5-1 New Jersey journeyman Rashid Bogar. Turkmenistan welterweight Serdar Huday Berviyev debuts in a four rounder against Devin McMaster, also debuting, from Easton, Pennsylvania. Super welterweights Mikkel Lespierre of New York City and Steve Martinez of the Bronx are also scheduled to appear.
