“Chicago Welcomes the PBC on Spike TV”
By Zo Crooks
Chicago, IL. (April 23, 2015) – On Friday Night, April 24th, 2015, Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) on Spike TV returns with an explosive doubleheader at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago as the WBC Super Middleweight Champion Anthony “The Dog” Dirrell(27-0-1, 22 KOs) makes his first title defense against the challenger Jack “The Ripper” Badou(18-1, 12 KOs) in super middleweight action.
In the co-main event of the evening “regular” WBA Middleweight Champion Daniel “The Miracle Man” Jacobs (28-1, 25 KOs) goes toe to toe with veteran Caleb “Golden” Truax(25-1-2, 15 KOs) in a middleweight bout. This will be Jacobs first title defense.
The press conference for the event took place Wednesday afternoon. The fighters looked prepared and confident. Here is a brief description and quotes from each fighter:
Anthony Dirrell was strictly-business. Dirrell was very impressive from his dress attire to his beaming confidence. His impact was felt from the moment he entered the place. He made an entrance to the sounds of dogs barking and echoes of “Let’s go Champ”. He truly looked like a champion that has been here before.
“I’m glad that because of this platform, everybody knows what I’ve been through now. People can see that anything is possible. Going through something like defeating cancer has helped me achieve my dreams.”
“On Friday night I just have to hope that Jack doesn’t run. I want him to stand in there with me and we’ll see who’s better. I’m going to test his chin like nobody else has.”
“Badou Jack is a good fighter, but he hasn’t fought a guy like me.
Daniel Jacobswas poised as usual. He was confident and ready to go! Jacobs was disturbed by the comments that Truax made leading up to the fight. Truax said, “Miracle man, I’m getting sick of hearing that. He has a great story; more props to him from coming back from cancer…that don’t have nothing to do with what I’m going to do April 24th.” However Jacobs acknowledged that his story is inspirational but his boxing skills are “NICE”!!!
“Truax can say he’s tired of hearing about ‘The Miracle Man’ all he wants, but he shouldn’t be thinking about my cancer when we get in the ring. He should just fear me. I’m going to be a cancer to him once we start fighting.”
“People love a great story. I’m extremely proud of my story and for having beat cancer, but let’s not forget about my skill set.”
Caleb Truaxlooked like he belonged on the big stage. He was very cool, calm and collected. The Minnesota native was at home. “Golden” kept a low key profile for most of the press conference but spoke confidently when called upon. He is ready to go to work!
“I couldn’t be in any better shape right now. Physically I’m mature at 31-years-old. This is the right spot for me and a great opportunity.”
“This is a huge fight and a huge opportunity for me. It’s a career-changer and life-changer for my career in boxing. I’ve got to be smart in this fight.
Badou Jackmade a quiet entrance into the event. Dark sunglasses and the TMT hat pulled down slightly. Jack looked quiet but deadly. He kept his composure during the press conference amidst the barking and heckling from Team Dirrell. Jack wants to let his hands do the talking in the ring!
“I had the best training camp I’ve ever had and I’m ready to bring the title back to Las Vegas.”
“I respect Anthony Dirrell for winning the fight against cancer. I lost two of my amateur trainers to that disease and I’ll be dedicating this fight to them.”
“His team likes to bark and talk a lot of trash but they can’t fight for him. Come Friday night it’s just going to be the two of us in the ring.
The official weight-in took place Thursday April 23, 2015. Here are the fighters’ weights:
Anthony Dirrell – 167.4 lbs.
Badou Jack – 167.6 lbs.
