Steve USS Cunningham Faces Glazkov or Swan Song in Montreal Tonight
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Montreal, Canada (March 13th, 2015)– In ancient Greek, the expression ‘The Swan Song’ is a metaphorical phrase for a final gesture, effort or performance just before retirement. At age 38, Steve USS Cunningham has been world cruiserweight champion, and has fought his way through the heavyweight division. Tonight at Bell Centre in Montreal, Canada, March 13, 2015, Cunningham faces his third consecutive unbeaten foe, as he makes a final stab at the world heavyweight title. His last three opponents have a combined record of 49-0-1, which makes one think of Rocky Marciano and Floyd Mayweather Jr. looking at the unsurmountable numbers.
Cunningham, now 28-6, 13 knockouts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has survived his ring journey, and his young daughter’s recent heart transplant. Having lost to Tomasz Adamek (some say he really won), Cunningham must now face younger Vyacheslav Glazkov, 19-0 with 12 knockouts, Lugansk, Ukraine, who has beaten Adamek. However, Glazkov drew with Malik Scott over 10 rounds, who Deontay Wilder took out in one round. Glaskov got a controversial majority 10 round decision over DerricRossy last August. Rossy felt he won.
Cunningham’s more recent performances have shown spirit, heart, hunger and serious determination. Despite his age, Cunningham still wants it bad. He is able to get inside on his opponents and outwork them, and work them over, and rise from the canvas to win.
Steve Cunningham is predicted to win by 12 round decision tonight in Montreal, for the USBA Heavyweight title. To be accurate, the correct game plan will win this bout. Cunningham is too seasoned for Glazkov, who has a chance, but looks too much like the next Tomasz Adamek type fighter to come along. Steve, whose ill daughter is on his mind, appears nowadays like a rejuvenated man on a winning mission. He may not win the world heavyweight title, but Steve can take apart the prospects as an experienced veteran should.
On the undercard, Sergey Kovalev is predicted to win by 12 round decision over Jean Pascal in defense of his WBA Super, IBF and WBO World Light Heavyweight titles. Isaac Chilemba is predicted to win by late rounds stoppage in rounds 10, 11 or 12, over 17-0 VasilyLepikhin for the vacant NABF Light Heavyweight title and a shot at Kovalev later in 2015. Lightweight Dierry Jean is predicted to win by 10 round decision over Carlos Manuel Reyes. Light heavyweight Nadjib Mohammedi is predicted to win by 10 round decision over Lee Campbell. 18-0 welterweight prospect Dmitry Mikhaylenko is predicted to win by 10 round decision or late round stoppage over Felipe Teniente. Super lightweight Yves Ulyss Jr. is predicted to win by knockout over Miguel Antoine within four rounds. David Thoreux is predicted to win by four round decision over Lukasz Janik.
