Aaron ‘Homicide’ Mitchell Comeback Fails at Age 45, Loses To Elvin Ayala at Mohegan

New Haven, CT (January 19th, 2015)–As his twin brother Eric ‘Murder’ Mitchell fought a draw with Harry Yorgey last year, Aaron ‘Homicide’ Mitchell was still making comeback noises. Area trainer Marshall Kauffman, in the corner of Eric against his former boxer Yorgey, heard the vibes and took Aaron Mitchell up on his wish.

Elvin Ayala, a Marshall Kauffman fighter who was knocked out by David Lemieux and Curtis Stevens both in the first round, had enough left to win a unanimous six round decision over Aaron Mitchell on Saturday night, January 17, 2014, at Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncaville, Connecticut. Inactive seven years, Mitchell’s only hope was a knockout on promoter Jimmy Burchfield’s territory, and his aging frame never had a chance.

Mitchell, a middleweight, and Ayala, a light middleweight, weighed in at 171 and 170 pounds respectively, and entered the ring looking more like cruiserweights. If Aaron Mitchell thought to fool anybody, at this weight he could not fool himself. At 160 pounds give or take a few, would have been one story. However, to try to comeback after seven years against an experienced fighter grossly overweight was foolish, and Aaron’s once pristine record was ruined in the process. For Aaron, a call came, a bout was offered, and he took it, and got paid. The three judges differed on the scoring, but Mitchell got outpunched by light hitting Ayala, and the outcome was clear for all to see.

Ayala, in active for two years, New Haven, Connecticut, is now 27-6-1 with 12 knockouts. Mitchell’s lone previous loss was to rising Keith Mullings, a future WBC World Super Welterweight champion who fought in six world title fights, in October 1993 at Bally’s Atlantic City. With this loss, the now powerless Philadelphia fighter Aaron Mitchell, 27-2-1, 21 knockouts, would be wise to stay retired. Perhaps twin brother Eric should take this result as a hint of what lies ahead, and should also retire after his lucky draw with Yorgey.

Result: Elvin Ayala Win 6 Aaron Mitchell, Light Heavyweights
Scoring: 60-54, 59-55, 58-56 for Ayala.
Ayala inactive two years, Mitchell inactive seven years in this casino crossroads bout.
