Wilfredo ‘Papito’ Vázquez is aiming to mould past with the present, when he reignites his career on November 1st, starring in the card named ‘The Comeback’, presented by Miguel Cotto Promotions along with H2 Entertainment & Top Rank at the Coliseo Héctor Solá Bezares, in Caguas.
Vazquez will fight in Puerto Rico. After two years out, he will clash with Californian featherweight Jonathan Arellano (15-4, 3 Kos).
For this fight, Vazquez Jr, who has a record of 23-4-1 and 19 KO´s, is currently training with his father, the triple former World Champion, Wilfredo Vazquez, at the gym Miguel J. Frau in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
He was separated from him prior to his last fight and he lost by a close decision against Marvin Sonsona in the Card where Miguel Cotto conquered the WBC middleweight championship.
“ I had just signed with the enterprise and unfortunately, I started on the wrong foot, ” mentioned “Papito” with his usual good humor, adding “Now I’ve got a good upcoming fight, and I’m determined to win it.”
Papito is 30 years old, and he acknowledge his last defeat occurred, because he didn’t train with his father. “What happened is that I had the chance to go to Mexico with Ben Heredia, who is the physical trainer of Juan Manuel Márquez. He uses a modern and scientific method,”
He also explained: “I wanted my dad to travel with me, but he wasn’t able to do so.”
But this time is different. His comeback is with dad but he’s also still working with Heredia, and he expects that the bout with Arellano could convince his father about the usefulness of joining past and present techniques. The card will be broadcasted since 11:00 for USA as part of the series ‘Solo Boxeo Tecate’ of Univision.
