Broadway Boxing! WBC Champion Elio Rojas in Main Event on DiBella B.B. King Card

By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent

New York, NY (August 9th, 2014)– The spectacular comeback of former World Boxing Council World Featherweight champion Elio ‘The Kid’ Rojas is the featured main event of an eight bout card promoted by Lou DiBella Entertainment on Wednesday, August 13, 2014, at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill in Manhattan. DiBella entertainment continues to sign and promote some of the world’s most exciting rising prospects and main event fighters in the world today.

Rojas, 23-2, 14 knockouts, a Dominican fighting out of Brooklyn, New York, will face Las Vegas trial horse Robert Osiobe, 14-9, six knockouts, who has either knocked out his opponents or taken the bouts to the cards in all 20 of his professional bouts. The main event will be an eight rounder fought at the lightweight limit, only the second time in his career Rojas has fought above 130 pounds since he decisioned Luis Antonio Lopez at Foxwoods Casino Resort in Connecticut in his second professional bout in May 2004.

Rojas is favored to win a unanimous decision and win at least six or seven of the eight rounds over Osiobe, a defensive type survivor who will put Rojas to the test somewhat.

In the co-preliminary bout to the main event, middleweight prospect Lamar ‘The Boxing Que’ Russ, 14-1, seven knockouts, Wilmington, North Carolina, is favored to win by eight round decision over middleweight veteran Derrick Findley, 20-13 with 13 knockouts, Gary, Indiana. Findley has not been hurt in his last seven bouts, but he has not won any of them either, managing to lose five, draw one, with one No Contest. Russ, a suburb technical boxer, will pick Findley apart with combinations and put rounds in the bank from the start.

World ranked Super bantamweight Rafael ‘Dynamita’ Vazquez, 11-1 with nine knockouts, Brooklyn, New York, who currently holds the WBA Fedalatin Super Bantamweight title, will fight the other co-preliminary to the main event, an eight rounder against Derrick Wilson, 10-6-2, three knockouts, Fort Myers, Florida. Wilson won a ten round upset over 10-0 Braulio Santos in June of 2013, and could provide the seasoned Vazquez with a serious challenger. Look for Vazquez to wear Wilson down and eventually take him out in the later rounds with fast jab combinations and frequent power shots.

Other bouts scheduled include: a six rounder between 11-0 light heavyweight prospect Travis Peterkin of Brooklyn, New York, versus 5-4-1 Lamont Williams of Sacramento, California; a six rounder between super featherweight prospect 11-0 Bryant ‘Pee Wee’ Cruz of Port Chester, New York, versus Jose Morales, 7-5-2, Denver, Colorado; a four rounder between 5-0 super middleweight prospect Junior ‘Sugar Boy’ Younan Jr. versus 4-6 Marlon Farr, of Zephyrhills, Florida. Farr is coming off a four round decision win Jerrod Caldwell last month at Casino Miami Jai Alai. However, look for Younan to score a knockout as Younan has been showing superior power in his recent matches. Junior welterweight Jonathan Alonzo of Spain is also scheduled to make his pro debut in a four rounder on the BB King card.

Doors open 6 P.M., first bout 7 P.M. Tickets $125, $100, $75, and $55. For more information and advanced ticket sales please contact DiBella Entertainment at 212-947-2577. Call today.
