Harry Joe Yorgey Interview: Taking Care of Business

By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent

Light middleweight contender ‘Lightning’ Harry Joe Yorgey, 27-2-1 with 12 knockouts, Bridgeport, Pennsylvania, will return to the ring after a year’s inactivity in the six round main event of a five bout card on July 25, 2014, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Yorgey will face experienced veteran Eric Mitchell, 23-11-1, 11 knockouts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The fight will take place at 160 pounds, as is seen as an opportunity bout for Mitchell, a former NABA middleweight titleholder.

Real Combat Media: “Harry, why the one year layoff?”

Harry Yorgey: “I was going through promoters trying to get ‘the right fight’. I was (also) busy with my family, taking care of personal issues.”

Real Combat Media: “You received many fight proposals for your latest comeback.”

Harry Yorgey: “The Crowne Plaza Hotel is a small venue, for me to (fight and) get back into world title contention. You have to pay real money (high purses) for the contention fighters who proposed.”

Real Combat Media: “Will the fight with Eric Mitchell get dirty?”

Harry Yorgey: “It could. It’s Eric’s style. Look at Bernard Hopkins. I do plan on taking control of this fight with my jab.”

Real Combat Media: “Will the bout go the distance or not?”

Harry Yorgey: “I can’t control that (factor). I can control how I prepare for a fight. If the knockout is there, if there’s an opponent to stop, I will go out and try to stop him.”

Real Combat Media: “You and Eric are friends. Is fighting a dangerous veteran like Eric Mitchell a risky fight?”

Harry Yorgey: “This is an opportunity fight for Eric. At the end of the day, friendship goes out the window. Eric and I, we both have a job to do.””

Real Combat Media: “Do you plan to fight an eight rounder afterwards in your next comeback bout?”

Harry Yorgey: “Yes, of course. (It will be) An eight or 10 round title fight.”

Real Combat Media: “Harry, what is on your mind right now as you prepare for your comeback bout coming up?”

Harry Yorgey: “I am not thinking about the next fight. I am just thinking about getting back into the ring and taking care of business.”
