Scott Coker Replaces Bjorn Rebney as the New CEO of Bellator MMA
By Syl Peterkin, RCM Correspondent
Viacom the majority owner of Bellator MMA has replaced its founder and CEO of the company Bjorn Rebney with former Strikeforce CEO and founder Scott Coker. It has been suggested that Rebney “isn’t ceding control (easily).” Rumors have held that Viacom execs and Rebney weren’t always in unison as to the direction of the firm. Scott Coker became a viable replacement option after his non-compete agreement with Zuffa (UFC) ended in March, following the sale of Strikeforce in 2011 (which he founded in 1985 as a kickboxing promotion). Rebney founded the firm Bellator, but its big boost came in 2008 after a major infusion of cash. We will have further developments as to the antedated battle involving Rebney and Viacom as news is released.
