The Iceman Cometh in Spring: Brooklyn Middleweight Akil Auguste on Salita Card

Akil ‘The Iceman’ Auguste of Brooklyn, New York, is a rising middleweight prospect. Auguste had a 60-19 amateur record, including winning two New York Metro Championships in the 165 pound open category. His professional record in 3-1 with three knockouts. In an exclusive interview with Real Combat Media, Auguste talked about how his interest in boxing began. Auguste will face Juan Zapata of Honduras in a four rounder on the undercard of Dmitriy Salita’s latest Brooklyn Brawl card on Thursday evening, May 15, 2014, at Millenium Theater in Brighton Beach Brooklyn, New York.
Auguste is also scheduled to fight another four rounder at the Fairmont Princess Resort in South Hamilton, Bermuda, on September 27, 2014, on the undercardof a fight card which will feature former WBC World Female Middleweight champion Teresa Perozzi of Bermuda in the ten round main event.
Real Combat Media: “How did you get started in boxing?”
The Iceman: “I was getting into fights on the street in Flatbush Brooklyn. I was never with the big crowd, I was always by myself.”
Real Combat Media: “Where are you from originally? Your name sounds French.”
The Iceman: “My ancestry is from St. Lucia and Trinidad.”
Real Combat Media: “Where did you begin your initial training?”
The Iceman: “I trained with Victor Roundtree at Mendez Boxing, and also Leon Taylor.”
Real Combat Media: “Who are you training with now?”
The Iceman: “I am being trained by Arreola Sosa for five months strong.”
Real Combat Media: “How has your strength and conditioning going along?”
The Iceman: Since I have been working with Sosa, I have also been working with Pablo De La Rosa on strength and conditioning. He does everything good, and he also tells me what foods to eat and not to eat. For natural energy, Pablo is pretty good.”
