King David Estrada Interview: I’ll Fight Osumanu Adama in Chicago at 154 Pounds for 50 Thousand Dollars, I’ll Fight King Carlos Molina in Chicago For 100 Thousand Dollars!
By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent
In a Real Combat Media international exclusive, world ranked boxer King David Estrada of Chicago, Illinois, whose last four professional bouts were victories over fighters with a combined 60 wins, said he would take a 12 round bout with world ranked OsumanuAdama, also of Chicago, at the catchweight of 154 pounds for 50 thousand dollars.
Estrada, now 26-6, with 16 knockouts, who recently fought for the Bare Knuckles Boxing world Middleweight championship at 160 pounds, stated Adama is world class and he has respect for him. However, Estrada, who is going down in weight, noted he is not a middleweight. According to Adama’s manager WasfiTolaymat last week, Adama was at 157 pounds in Monte Carlo for his fight with Gennady Golovkin, and Tolaymat was willing to let Adama fight at 154 pounds if he won the fight. Given Adamaat 157 pounds was close to 154 pounds, a light middleweight matchup between Adama and Estrada in Chicago should be possible at UIC Pavillion later this year.
Real Combat Media: “You recently fought Eddie Caminero for the BKB Bare Knuckles Boxing World Middleweight championship. Was that boxing as you know it?”
King David Estrada: “It was. Bare Knuckles Boxing is a style of fight which I like. So it was boxing!”
Real Combat Media: “Your bout with Caminero was a world championship fight. Do you want a rematch in the near future?”
King David Estrada: “Try again? Definitely. I’m hoping to get a rematch with Caminero. I’m not sure they’ll give it to me. My next BKB bare knuckles fight will be in April 2014.”
Real Combat Media: “You fought Caminero at 160 pounds middleweight, far from your usual welterweight.”
King David Estrada: “I took the fight with Eddie Caminero at 160 pounds because I was at that weight at that time. I normally fight at welterweight. I’m actually on my way down right now.”
Real Combat Media: “Did you see Osumanu Adama’s fight with GGG? Can you beat Adama?”
King David Estrada: “Yes, I saw Adama’s fight with Golovkin. Can I beat Adama? I’m not a middleweight. I really can’t say. I respect Adama as a world class fighter, and as a world class middleweight fighter. If you are thinking about fighting Adama, you gotta be ready. To fight OsumanuAdama, I expect to get paid at least 50 thousand dollars. At (in the) least when you fight a world class fight, you gotta get world class money.”
Real Combat Media: “There’s a Lebanese welterweight out of Montreal, Canada, handled by the Tolaymats named Ahmad Cheikho. He stopped a stiff named Francisco Rios Gil at UIC Pavillion in the first round last night. Gil had lost his last 12 professional bouts consecutively to experienced fighters going back five years, so the bout did not mean much. Would you fight Cheikho?”
King David Estrada: “I saw Ahmad Cheiko get knocked out by Angel Hernandez last year in the third round at Cicero Stadium. There’s no point to fighting somebody. It’s either got to be someone in the top ten to take their ranking, or it has gotta be (for) good money.”
Real Combat Media: “Will you be taking any tune up fights this year? You won a six round tune up over Rahman Yusupov last April.”
King David Estrada: “Yeah, definitely. I’ve very rusty as hell, as anybody who saw the Eddie Caminero fight knows, so I need (to fight some) tune ups.”
Real Combat Media: “Who is managing and promoting you right now?”
King David Estrada: “Right now, I’m managing and promoting myself.”
Real Combat Media: “Have you had any serious fight offers?”
King David Estrada: “There’s been a couple of offers. The money hasn’t been like a fight that’s right, so I just turned them down.”
Real Combat Media: “Will you fight Osumanu Adama at 154 pounds?”
King David Estrada: “Well, yeah. I’m not a middleweight. I consider OsumanuAdama a world class fighter and I respect him. He’s a dangerous fighter. If the money’s right, I’m gonna fight Adama at 154 pounds. But I’m not gonna fight him at middleweight.”
Real Combat Media: “Are you currently sparring for your next BKB fight?”
King David Estrada: “I’m preparing for my next BKB fight. If I’m preparing for BKB or boxing, I’ve gotta spar. I haven’t started my sparring yet. Probably in the next couple weeks.”
Real Combat Media: “Would you take a fight in Chicago with King Carlos Molina for the International Boxing Federation World Light Middleweight title, if he defeats JemallCharlo at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on March 8, 2014, and brings his belt back to Chicago?”
King David Estrada: “I’m the King! I will fight Carlos Molina if the money is right. If the promoters come offering chump change, it’s a no.”
Real Combat Media: “Are you officially released from your promotional contract with Boxing 360? Are you looking to sign with someone else if it’s a good offer?”
King David Estrada: “I was released from my promotional contract with Boxing 360 sometime last year (in 2013). I would sign with a new manager and a new promoter only if it was a good offer and only if it’s one of the big dogs.”
Real Combat Media: “Do you want to fight for a world title at 147 pounds welterweight before you retire? Would you take a fight with Pacquiao, Broner, Marquez, Maidana, Malignaggi, Judah, Guerrero, Porter, Thurman, Bailey, Brook, Rios or Collazo?”
King David Estrada: “Definitely at 147 pounds. I’ll fight anybody that has a belt! I will fight anybody who (either) has a belt or who is gonna pay me 100 grandor more. I’m gonna fight for a world title or real money. Don’t even put a digit on it. That’s where I’m at.”
Real Combat Media: “Is MMA bigger than boxing in the United States? You have fought in both worlds.”
King David Estrada: “This (America) isn’t Europe. Mixed Martial Arts isn’t bigger than boxing here. The fighters shold be getting paid a lot more. I respect MMA. I watch all of the MMA fights. The MMA fighters should be getting paid better. I blame the MMA promoters.”
Real Combat Media: “You lost to Jesus Soto Karass in 2008. Would you like to fight him again? He beat Andre Berto, who you also lost to.”
King David Estrada: “I would love to fight Jesus Soto Karass again as well. He caught me with a shot, and I went down for a count of three and got right back up. You don’t get right back up like that if you’re hurt. Referee Tony Weeks asked me to walk to him and I did. He (then) asked me if I wanted to continue and I said I did. I was about to knock Soto Karass out when the referee stopped the fight (in the eighth round).”
Real Combat Media: “When you speak of fighting world ranked boxers to take their rankings, are you referring to the BoxRec, the IBO, or just the direct WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF rankings?”
King David Estrada: “BoxRec ain’tsh*t. BoxRec rankings are garbage. The IBO rankings are the same computerized stuff as BoxRec. I’m talking about the WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF world ranked fighters. Those world ranked fighters are the ones I want to fight!”
