Pat Curran vs Daniel Straus

Round 1

The men touch gloves at center ring at the start of the fight.  Curran starts off with a high kick to the head and some light punching.  Straus is standing center cage, then shoots for the double leg with lightning speed and is successful, putting Curran on his back against the cage.  He walks up the fence back to his feet and separates.  Straus slips a straight right and goes for a takedown but is shrugged off.  Curran lands an inside low right kick and Straus counters with a mid level outside body kick.  An accidental low kick stops the action momentarily.  Back in action and things start to heat up.  Several quick exchanges puts Pat on the cage with Daniel controlling.  He punches out and they are squared off again.  Daniel is pushing the kicks in combination with his takedowns but Curran is ready for it and lands some devistating elbows while defending the double leg from Straus.  After a few more combinations and some jumping techniques, the bell rings.  RCM MMA 10-9 Straus

Round 2

Straus looks to be the aggressor coming out with combinations and takedown attempts to Curran’s low kicks and punching combinations.  Curran is circling on the outside then comes in with a beatiful combination that lands and pushes Straus back.  He recovers and throws a 1-2 for good measure.  Daniel keeps changing levels in an attempt to keep Curran weary of the takedown.  Straus lands a good left body hook and puts Curran on his butt, however he is up immediately and looks no worse for wear.  Both fighters are content to exchange in the pocket but Curran looks to be the more polished with his hands.  A right body kick lands from Straus, followed by a good counter punching combination from Curran.  Curran lands a nice right hook coming out of the clinch, he is starting to find a home for his punches.  The bell rings and both men are toe to toe in the center of the cage.  RCM MMA 10-9 Curran

Round 3

Straus comes out strong again to start, pushing the action with jumping knees, high kicks and punching combinations.  Curran ranges accordingly and stays just outside the danger zone.  Another 1-2 ans Straus is fighting for the takedown with Curran using the cage to stay on his feet.  He slips his hips, throws some knees and punches but is unable to get out of the control position.  Straus Judo throws Curran but he is right back up.  They continue to battle tied up until as they stand, Pat Curran throws a viscious knee to the head, however, Straus’ knee was still down and the blow was illegal.  Daniel is given time to recover and eventually the fight is continued.  Pat Curran is deducted one point for the knee to a downed opponent.  Under 2 minutes remaining and Straus is already on top of Curran and then past his guard is seconds.  He is punching from side mount, using his elbow to grind on Curran’s face.  Curran rolls out and is able to replace guard.  Straus is content to throw elbows from the top of the guard for the remainder of the round as Curran fishes for possible entries for submissions but comes up empty.  RCM MMA 10-9 Straus

Round 4

The combatants touch gloves at the start of round 4.  Curran is fighting with a sense of urgency now, pushing the pace with kicks and punches.  Straus slows the pace to a grinding halt, pushing Pat against the cage and pressurring the champion on the fence.  Straus fights and gets the takedown.  As Curran tries to stand Straus takes his back standing which leads to a beautiful belly to back suplex.  Now turtled on the ground, Curran is protecting himself from taking any serious damage.  They stand back up still with Straus controlling the back, he is looking for another slam.  Curran turns his back to the cage to prevent it but finds himself on his butt for his troubles.  Curran pulls guard then puts Straus in a tight guillotine.  Straus starts punching and gets out of the choke hold.  On top, Daniel is heavy and methodical in his attack series, switching hands, moving from punches to elbows and keeping his hips engaged over Curran.  There looks to be a cut that has opened on Curran’s head.  Straus is still on top as the bell rings for round 4.  RCM MMA 10-9 Straus

Round 5

Again they touch to begin the round.  They exchange strong side kicks in the center of the canvas but neither is able to find a home.  Straus is pressuring again but Curran circles away from the cage.  Straus throws a flying knee but it is blocked by Curran who stands his ground.  Curran gets rocked by a left hook, Straus is unloading on him now.  He looks for the takedown but Curran is able to stop it in time and clinch to recover from the shot.  The action slows against the fence then Straus seperates to land a couple of nice left uppercuts.  Now Curran switches positions and is threatening for the takedown.  He almost gets the foot trip but Straus has great balance.  He shoots for a double but Straus shrugs that off as well.  Curran doesn’t seem to be able to put his game together tonight.  Straus looks for a guillotine and Curran takes him down for the effort.  Then Straus explodes into a reversal and ends up on top in Curran’s guard raining punches down as the bell rings to bring a halt to this contest.  RCM MMA 10-9 Straus

Daniel Straus defeats Pat Curran via Unanimous Decision (49-45, 48-46, 48-46)

King Mo Lawal vs Emanuel Newton

Round 1

No glove touch as they come to the center of the cage to start the bout.  Newton is really probing with his jab.  King Mo is stalking slowly in the low ready position he normally uses.  He shoots for an outside single and after some work is able to secure a double leg near the fence.  Newton gets back to his feet but is eating some serious leather in the process.  King Mo is looking to get him back down and again is able to wrestle his opponent down after no short amount of effort.  His pressure is amazing, he is giving Newton no space to generate any power.  Finally they seperate after a nice rally by King Mo.  Newton comes aggressive but accidentally lands a groin shot.  After a restart, Emanuel throws a kick, spinning back fist combination but is taken down by an explosive double leg by King Mo in the process.  Lawal shoves Newton to the cage and begins to work some ground and pound.  Newton is back up and they step to center cage.  Newton is throwing one off punches but nothing is landing.  King Mo is happy with just defending for the final minute of the round and simply moves away from the onslaught as the bell rings.  RCM MMA 10-9 King Mo

Round 2

Both men look fresh as Emanuel leads off with a couple of high left kicks to the head.  He misses with a spinning back kick but is keeping with the lead left leg.  He mixes in some over hand rights and one of them seems to find its mark.  The crowd replies in turn.  King Mo shoves Newton to the cage and then picks him up and slams him right onto the canvas.  Newton scrambles back to his feet without taking any serious damage.  Then he throws another left high kick and lands clean.  King Mo is hurt, he is backing up.  He seems to be recovering as he slips a clean right hand.  King Mo lands an uppercut and Newton backs off a little.  Another spinning kick almost hits King Mo in the mouth.  Mo looks for the body shot and is rewarded.  He is now fully recovered.  Toe to toe, Newton lands another big overhand right that slings sweat off of King Mo’s head and shoulders.  Still at center cage, the bell rings to end the second round.  RCM MMA 10-9 Newton

Round 3

Newton starts the round with a 1-2 combination but misses the mark.  He keeps the left leg active to show King Mo it is still a threat.  Newton lands another right hand but King Mo responds with a right hand of his own.  Newton is moving along the cage on the outside.  After a flurry, they are back in the center of the ring.  King Mo is one dimentional in his punching but he is mixing in head and body strikes.  Newton lands a spinning back kick to the body but Lawal shrugs it off.  King Mo seems to be moving forward and pressuring but it is Newton who is landing the cleaner shots in the exchanges.  King Mo shoots for a single, he changes to a double against the cage which he works relentlessly for but is unable to bring Newton down.  The punch, kick combinations of Newton are getting the better of King Mo and he is looking frustrated.  RCM MMA 10-9 Newton

Round 4

Newton starts with an inside low leg kick.  He is working in combination and again, barely misses a high spinning kick to the head.  Mo watches the kick go by with both his hands down by his waist.  King Mo pushes forward and lands a right hand with good footwork.  Newton is peppering with kicks, landing another low leg kick and a spinning back kick to the body.  King Mo doesn’t seem to care one bit but I’m sure the judges do.  Newton throws the spinning back fist and misses but King Mo is unable to secure the takedown off of the missed punch.  Newton is thowing spinning techniques at a 1-1 ration now.  King Mo secures a takedown but is unable to land any solid punches before Newton gets back to his feet.  They fight it out for the next minute and a half but neither fighter is able to get the better of the exchanges.  They both are starting to fade and the pace has slowly diminished.  RCM MMA 10-9 Newton

Round 5

They touch gloves at the start of the 5th and final frame.  Center cage, the action starts the same as it has been, with Newton the busier of the two fighters.  King Mo seems like he’s looking for the one big knockout punch but Newton is much more active.  King Mo lands a nice straight right that obviously hurts Newton although he stands his ground.  King Mo fights for another takedown off a missed spinning backfist from Newton but he is unable to get him down.  Another exchange sees Newton landing kicks for every punch that King Mo is landing.  Its hard to see who is getting the better of the other.  Lawal works another takedown and secures it with less than a minute remaining in the fight.  He holds Newton against the cage but Newton is able to get back to his feet with less than 15 seconds remaining.  He throws a big spinning back fist and then goes for a hail mary takedown as the bell sounds.  RCM MMA 10-9 King Mo

Emanuel Newton defeats King Mo Lawal via Unanimous Decision (46-49, 46-49, 46-49)

Michael Chandler vs Eddie Alvarez

Round 1

No touch of gloves to strart the match.  The movement is so fast its hard to see.  Chandler is the aggressor but Eddie looks to be slightly faster.  Alvarez is using his footwork to stay just outside of Chandler’s punches.  Eddie looks for a double but Michael peels his arms away with pure strength to defend.  Chandler is putting everything he has behind his punches, putting a lot of stock in his ability to take a counter punch from Eddie.  Chandler lands a right and Eddie changes levels to threaten the takedown.  The champ defends easily and continues stalking forward.  A straight right lands by Eddie then a left hook by the Champ.  Eddie lands a right leg kick but Chandler counters with a right hand and enters for the takedown.  He picks Eddie up and slams him to the canvas with authority.  He searches and almost finds the RNC but not before Eddie defends and is back to his feet.  Exciting round.  RCM MMA 10-9 Chandler

Round 2

Eddie lands his classic “fade away” right hand but Chandler charges to counter the punch with combinations of his own.  Alvarez seems more prepared to fight inside the pocket as the second round winds down.  Chandler walks Eddie down with his lead hand low, inviting Eddie to attack.  Eddie won’t be drawn into a slugfest and he continues to move on the outside with quick footwork.  He defends a Chandler takedown and is circling away as the champ regains his footing.  Chandler lands a body kick then graps Alvarez and throws him down again.  Eddie is up, but Chandler slams him again with a gorgeous suplex.  The nimble Alvarez is right back up, working off of the cage to stay on his feet.  Michael is pressuring with his wrestling and is able to put Eddie on his butt against the fence.  Eddie is back up and with a quick shuck, he’s away from the fence.  Eddie goes on the offensive landing a beautiful uppercut but Chandler quickly switches to his wrestling and is able to put Eddie on his back yet again.  Playing guard, Alvarez ends the round on his back with the Champ punishing from the top.  RCM MMA 10-9 Chandler

Round 3

Both men exchange in the center of the cage.  The first 20 seconds are a slug fest until Chandler shoots for a double leg takedown.  Alvarez defends and they are back to the center of the cage.  Chandler lands a sweet lead leg side kick to Eddie’s body.  Eddie’s head movement is still right on par as he parries a huge Chandler uppercut.  Chandler fights for another takedown but Eddie seems prepared this time, using the fence to ward off the attack.  Chandler shoots for a single and is unsuccessful.  There is much less pop to Chandler’s punches at this point and Eddie is starting to notice and take advantage.  Eddie lands a nice straight right and shoots in for a takedown, he is almost successful but decides to land a spinning backfist instead.  Chandler shoots again, he lifts Eddie and slams him down next to the fence.  Eddie is back to his feet but Chandler is really putting on the pressure now.  Chandler switches directions and takes Eddie down again.  Eddie begins throwing elbows from the guard and Chandler punches down for the final ten seconds of the round.  RCM MMA 10-9 Alvarez

Round 4

Eddie is still looking fast and powerful.  He is coming out with authority.  Chandler is using some great head movement to keep Eddie’s hands from landing.  Chandler throws a flying knee, it seems to have missed but the crowd loves it.  After some clinch fighting, Alvarez finds himself on his back again from the dominant wrestling of the champ.  There is a lot of blood now and its hard to tell who its from.  Chandler is really putting it to Alvarez in his guard.  It’s clear now the cut is on Eddie’s left eye and is really bleeding into his vision.  Chandler is relentless from the top.  Eddie is staying mobile from the bottom but Chandler is a beast, landing punches and elbows over and over.  Eddie is trying to shift his hips to create angles of attack but Chandler is having none of it.  Several minutes have passed but Eddie cannot get anything going from the bottom and Chandler in content to punch away from inside his opponents guard.  The round ends the same way.  RCM MMA 10-9 Chandler

Round 5

Eddie comes out with a huge combination the misses.  He is clearly looking for the finish.  Chandler changes levels as Eddie comes in but Alvarez stuffs the takedown attempt.  Eddie gets his by a counter uppercut and Chandler rushes in and secures the takedown.  Eddie tries to get up but Chandler takes Eddie’s back in the process.  Eddie escapes and turns the tables, taking Chandler’s back standing.  He is kneeing the champ to the legs then Michael rolls to escape.  Eddie follows and stay on top then both men stand and recenter.  Eddie lands a standing knee to the face which hurts Chandler.  Chandler shoots but Eddie defends, now Chandler is fading hard and Eddie is landing over and over.  Eddie takes Chandler’s back with less than two minutes remaining.  He almost lands the RNC but Chandler defends.  The crowd is going crazy.  One minute left and Eddie is still on the Champ’s back.  Chandler is exhausted and has nothing left in the tank.  Then out of no where, the champ escapes and gets on top.  Eddie fights to his feet and Chandler drops him back to the mat.  Chandler holds Eddie on the mat for the remaining seconds until the match comes to a close.  The audience is giving a standing ovation for the combatants for their awesome effort.  Chandler’s face is a disgusting wreck and besides the cut, Eddie looks to be alright.  RCM MMA 10-9 Alvarez

Eddie Alvarez defeats Michael Chandler via Split Decision (48-47 Chandler, 48-47 Alvarez, 48-47 Alvarez)
