Tommy Morrison Goes To Heaven, Family Duke Fight Over His Corpse is a Living Hell

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

New York, (September 7th, 2013)– Former WBO World Heavy weight champion Tommy ‘The Duke’ Morrison, who went public with his HIV Positive diagnosis, then went in and out of jail, in and out of the boxing and MMA ring, into denial, and out of reach in Texas and other jurisdictions who wanted to test his blood for the AIDS virus, has had an official death certificate issued. The official cause of Morrison’s death listed is cardiac arrest from a blood infection from Pseudomonas Aeruginosa Septicemia. According to the Nebraska death certificate, Morrison was cremated on instructions of his wife Trisha, as reported by many boxing and worldwide news sources. Some sites even report Trisha intending to put Morrison’s ashes in boxing gloves to give to his friends. A cremation without an autopsy would close the book on Tommy Morrison’s story, and his ‘Dog and pony show’ (as Tommy called it) for good.

Now, according to news sites MMA Dirt and KC Confidential, Tommy’s former promoter Tony Holden is involved in a heated disagreement with Tommy’s widow Trisha over the corpse, on behalf of Morrison’s mother and four children, to get Morrison buried properly with his family in the Morrison family plot in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas.

In the state of Arkansas, proper certification of death is required.

According to the online information provided by the Swiss private pharmaceutical research company Polyphor at http://www.polyphor.com/patients/pseudomonas-infections/infections-caused-by-pseudomonas-aeruginosa, Pseudomonas Aeruginosa causes urinary tract infections, respiratory system infections, dermatitis, soft tissue infections, bacteremia, bone and joint infections, gastrointestinal infections and a variety of systemic infections, particularly with burn victims, and in patients with cancer and AIDS who are immuno-suppressed. Sepsis and septic shock are inflammatory states resulting from the systemic response to bacterial infection. Most cases of septic shock are caused by Gram-negative bacteria like Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and most often occur in immuno-compromised patients with chronic and debilitating diseases like cancer and AIDS.

Real Combat Media thus becomes the first worldwide news source to report a medical research correlation which provides more detailed information to interpret Tommy Morrison’s reported cause of death listed on his death certificate. The medical information is, of course, subject to interpretation. The information is only provided. Real Combat Media does not infer any connection to Morrison’s death based on the more accurate and detailed medical information which clarifies what Pseudomonas Aeruginosa means.

Cardiac arrest, or heart failure is a general term to list as a primary cause of death. Anybody who dies must incur heart failure because the heart stops. The late Las   Vegas entertainer Liberace’s cause of death was first described as cardiac arrest caused by cardiac failure, but the death certificate was rejected by the Health Department. Liberace’s lawyers maintained that he died of heart failure, but because California law requires all suspicions of contagious diseases be reported to the coroner’s office, an autopsy was performed. After taking tissue samples from his embalmed body, Liberace’s death due to AIDS was confirmed.

Perhaps, if Liberace’s late manager and executor Seymour Heller had ordered an immediate cremation in Nevada or California, Liberace might have avoided any health department where his body wound up from desecrating his corpse and his legacy, a fate which Tommy Morrison, in death, has apparently avoided. Heller and Liberace’s staff sued the Liberace estate, but Liberace had changed his will shortly before he died to benefit the Liberace Foundation for aspiring performing artists. In October 2012, the Liberace Foundation filed for bankruptcy. Morrison never filed for bankruptcy, but the Rocky Balboa character did file for bankruptcy in the movie Rocky V Morrison co-starred in.

Morrison denied he had HIV till the bitter end, and did not take assistance from any boxing charities. Morrison was a big, strong, muscular macho guy whose stubbornness may have gotten in the way of accepting the medical treatment he required in recent years, regardless of his medical diagnosis. For individuals stricken with HIV/AIDS, it is a treatable condition, and no longer a death sentence. Magic Johnson has lived with the HIV virus while taking medications for 23 years. There are examples of people with HIV living 30 years or more. Jonathan Swain, the 12 year old young man with AIDS from Colorado who appeared with Tommy Morrison on the Maury Povich Show in 1996, is today 29 years old, married with a wife and children.

Morrison may have died and gone to heaven, but whatever his cause of death, his final year on a ventilator, mom Diana stated in her recent ESPN interview Morrison was suffering from HIV /AIDS (in contradiction to Morrison’s wife Trisha who stated Tommy was suffering from Guillain-Barre Syndrome) , was more like a decaying human vegetable on a respirator in a disconnected from the world if not himself. Morrison’s corpse, which is not being allowed to rest in peace, is currently trapped in limbo. Hopefully Morrison can have a decent burial surrounded by his loved ones and friends, and finally rest in peace once and for all. Sadly, the ‘Duke’s is gone, but even his bones, it seems, are locked in a struggle for survival not unlike Morrison’s 52 professional boxing wars when he was alive.
