Opening Thoughts From Two Champions on Manny Pacquiao versus Brandon Rios
By Robert Brizel, Head RCM Boxing Correspondent
Joining me at ringside on September 22, 2013, at Resorts New World Casino in Queens, New York, were the incomparable Junior ‘Poison’ Jones and Juan LaPorte, both famous former world champions with a great deal to say on the subject of boxing.
With the Manny Pacquiao versus Brandon Rios bout coming up on November 23, 2013, in Macao, China, Real combat Media gave both boxing greats a chance to make the first predictions for the Pacquiao-Rios bout. It has been estimated Pacquiao lost a potential 100 million dollar payday windfall in 2010 after agreeing to fight Floyd Mayweather with a 50-50 split of the revenue in 2010. The Pacquiao versus Floyd bout never took place because Pacquiao’s conditions for mandatory drug testing of Floyd created an obstacle block. The bout might still happen if Pacquiao, 54-5-2, 38 knockouts, General Santos City, Philippines, gets by Rios, 31-1-1, 23 knockouts, Oxnard, California, in their vacant World Boxing Organization World Welterweight title bout.
Real Combat Media: “Who will win, Manny Pacquiao or Brandon Rios?”
Juan LaPorte: “I predict Brandon Rios will win.”
Junior Jones: “I disagree. I predict Pacquiao will win by knockout if his power punches get through. For Rios to win, he will have to fight smartly, and take the fight to Pacquiao.”
