Yushin Okami is Released from the UFC

By Anthony L. Gonzalez, RCM Editor In Chief

According to BJPenn.com, Yushin Okami was released this week from the UFC. This is a shocking move since Okami has won 3 out of his last 4 fights. However, in his last fight, Yushin was knocked out by former Strikeforce Champion, Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza

He was called “the best fighter to ever come out of Japan” by UFC President Dana White, Okami (29-8) competed inside the Octagon for seven years, with 13-5 record in the UFC. Yushin is still only 32 years old. Yushin most recent wins were against Hector Lombard and Alan Belcher.

Dana White’s only explanation of the cut was on Twitter and said that the UFC roster is packed. Many believe he may have been cut since he has a grinder, did not have a fan friendly style that used wrestling a lot to win his fights. Still this is a mystery for now and a very shocking move by the UFC. He definitely did not deserve to be cut for performance reasons. Yushin was ranked 6th in the world in the UFC rankings.
