Welterweight Mike Jones Has a Fading Star

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent

Former top ranked welterweight prospect Mike Jones has a rapidly fading star. Jones, who has not fought since losing to Randall Bailey for the vacant international Boxing Federation welterweight title in June 2012, has been trying to make a contractual dispute with attorneys where there is none. Jones, now 26-1, 19 knockouts, has been in Las Vegas training with Floyd Mayweather Sr.

Jones had a 2006 promotional agreement, which he updated with two new agreements. One of the new agreements extended Jones original 2006 contract by three years if he received a world title opportunity. By virtue of the Bailey fight, Jones has a valid promotional contract which now extends to June 2015. Jones was promoted into television stardom from mediocrity specifically because of the brilliant promotional work Russell Peltz does. Jones should show gratitude. Few fighters are given the sort of opportunities in boxing Jones had.

So I have learned in boxing, there is not always a logical reason for the many contractual disputes and the things people in boxing do.
