Pacquiao Bamba

Thoughts on Pacquiao Versus Rios in Macao

By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Correspondent

It’s official! Manny Pacquiao will try not to lose his third fight in a row when he fights Brandon Rios, who is coming off a loss to Mike Alvarado in Las Vegas.

For Pacman and Rios, the three losses described above brought the two men to a crossroads. Pacquiao, a southpaw, now 54-5-2 with 38 knockouts, Kibawe, Bukidnon, Philippines, must give away an inch and a half in height and one inch is reach. Pacquiao, 34, must get inside, back up Rios, cut off the ring and dominate him. Rios stopped Mike Alvarado in seven rounds and then lost a 12 round rematch, meaning the playbook is there for the Pacquiao camp to study to find the win if they do their homework.

Rios, 27, 31-1-1 with 23 knockouts, Oxnard, California, is a fine technical fighter who has beaten a lot of good fighters on the road. Rios has had trouble with better fighters. Some results include Manuel Perez (Draw 10, TKO 7), Miguel Acosta (Win TKO 10), Anthony Peterson (Win Disqualification 7), Richar Abril (Win Split Decision 12 in a bout where Rios could not make the 135 pound weight limit), Umberto Tapia (Win 8), Ricardo Dominguez (Win Split Decision 10), and Mike Alvarado (TKO 7, Lose 12).

The key understanding here is this: Pacquiao is a cut above the sort of opposition which has marked t he record of Rios. If Rios can box of range and keep Pacquiao out of the fight, he can win. Let Pacquiao get inside for any reason, and you’re dead. So long as Rios can keep Pacquiao well at a distance, he can win this fight. Stand in front of Pacquiao for a brief moment, and Rios won’t make it out of the round.

Manny Pacquiao is the biggest boxing box office bonanza after Floyd Mayweather.
The television networks eat up whatever Manny Pacquiao has to offer. Pacquiao is gambling he can win this fight. Actually, Pacquiao brings a great deal of class and style to the table. Rios is an underestimated fighter. He could perhaps outpoint Manny Pacquiao. In the coming months before Pacquiao and Rios fight it out, the press will have both fighters under the microscope.

Pacquiao’s split decision robbery loss to Timothy Bradley is worthy of a rematch, but a rematch with Juan Manuel Marquez is probably not going to happen. Marquez knows Pacquiao’s fight style too well. The fact remains the ‘Pacman Bamba’ is a tune still worth a great deal of money on pay-per-view. Short of knocking Pacquiao out, Rios is going to win a decision in the highly neutral location of Cotai Arena of the Venetian Resort in Macao, China. Pacman is worth too much at the box office. Does Pacman have enough left in the tank to beat the younger Rios, that is the question? In less than five months, boxing fans will find out.

‘Pacman Bamba’ time is coming up shortly, at a pay-per-view outlet nearest you. Pacquiao could still get Floyd Mayweather if he wins this bout and Floyd beats Saul Alvarez. Could be, might happen, you read it here.
