“I want to prove this guy in not on my level” talks Adonis Stevenson

Can Bad Chad be Superman’s Kryptonite.

By Real Combat Media Correspondent, Tom Mauriello

Montreal, Canada (June 6th, 2013)– This Saturday night from the Bell Center in Montreal, Canada will be roaring as native countrymen Adonis “Superman” Stevenson (20(17)-1) challenges “Bad” Chad Dawson (31(17)-2) for the WBC Light Heavyweight Championship on HBO. Dawson, the champion, is coming off of a TKO loss to Super Middleweight ace Andre Ward (26(14)-0) while the challenger Stevenson is coming off of a 6th round knockout against journeyman Darnell Boone (19-21-3) where he avenged his only loss as a professional. Stevenson looks to keep his 7 fight win streak going (all of which have come by stoppages) while Dawson looks to once again show his dominance of the Light Heavyweight Division.

Since he was picked up by the late Emmanuel Stewart to train at the Kronk boxing gym, Adonis Stevenson has looked unstoppable. The Haitian born fighter has worked on his footwork and balance and has become the most feared one-punch knockout fighters in the world. No one knows this better then Stevenson himself. The Superman is a very aggressive fighter who has confident with both hands, and looks to inflict as much punishment as possible with each punch. Un like most puncher – boxers, Stevenson has shown amazing bodywork in his recent victory over Boone. Stevenson was throwing a 1 – 2 combo and digging his right hand into the body, which ultimately led to his KO in the 6th. His style brings many dangers to the current champion Dawson. Bad Chad has not been in the ring with an aggressive power punch such as Stevenson since fighting Antonio Tarver in 2009.

Dawson is coming off of an embarrassing TKO stoppage against Andre Ward, a fight where he moved down to Super Middle for the mega fight. Ward was faster then Dawson and was able to beat him to the punch the entire night. This led to 3 knockdowns and referee Steve Smoger calling a stop to the contest in the 10th round.

The only thing I can say to this, is that Adonis Stevenson does not even come close to the caliber of fighter that Andre Ward it. Stylistically, they could not be any more different. Ward is one of the top pound for pound fighters in the world, where Adonis Stevenson is just a bruiser looking to inflict as much damage possible to his opponent. It’s an artist and an animal, and this is where Dawson will have an advantage.

Some may argue that Dawson is declining and coming to the twilight of his career. This argument is bogus. Chad Dawson has been defeated twice, by two highly decorated speed fighters. These are the type of fighters that give Dawson problems. Guys who will stick and move, make him chase, and keep him guessing. Stevenson will not be able to hit Dawson with the ease he has of his past opponents. Stevenson has never fought a man with the skill that Dawson possesses. Chad will maneuver around the ring, and attack Stevenson from angles. Dawson will not be a stationary target that Stevenson has grown accustom to in his last 7 knockout victories. The only way for Stevenson to win this fight is to stalk Dawson down, cut off the ring and rip into the body to slow the quicker fighter down. Stevenson has concrete feet, and is not athletically gifted enough to keep up with the slick moving Dawson. Dawson is looking to prove a point in this fight and is going to Canada to show them he is ready for a re match with Jean Pascal which will be a hug money generator. Stevenson will keep you on your seat, and clearly has the power to put Dawson away, but Dawson is a veteran, and will not allow himself to be put in a dangerous position where Stevenson can score the KO punch. My prediction for this fight is a 12 round Unanimous Decision victory from Bad Chad Dawson.
