Stevenson Gets Revenge on Bell Centre Card, Readies For Chad Dawson
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Correspondent
Montrael, Canada (March 24th, 2013)– In two important bouts which took place at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, on Friday evening, March 22, 2013, Canadian light heavyweight contenders Adonis Stevenson and Eleider Alvarez both won their step up bouts impressively.
Stevenson, 35, 20-1, 17 knockouts, a Haitian southpaw fighting out of Longueuil, Quebec, Canada, knocked dangerous journeyman Darnell Boone, now 19-21-3, 8 knockouts, Atlanta, Georgia, in a rematch of their April 2010 confrontation, which Boone won by second round knockout in Salisbury, Maryland, which at the time ruined Stevenson’s debut under promoter Lou DiBella. Stevenson will now fight American southpaw Chad Dawson in Bell Centre on June 8, 2013, for the World Boxing Council Light Heavyweight title. Dawson still holds the WBC world title, as he was stopped by Andre Ward in 2012 in a failed attempt to win Ward’s WBC and WBA Super Middleweight World titles in the lower 168 pound weight class. Stevenson is ranked number five in the world at Super Middleweight by BoxRec.
Alvarez, now 12-0, eight knockouts, is a Columbian fighter now out of Montreal. Alvarez disposed of Nicholson Poulard, a Haitian fighting out of Laval, Quebec, Canada, with an impressive third round stoppage. Poulard, now 19-4, 8 knockouts, havd won six bouts in a row coming in. Alvarez claimed the WBO NABO and NABA Light Heavyweight titles, and made his claim towards a WBA or WBO world title shot in the future. Alvarez will next fight at Bell Centre on May 25, 2013. Alvarez is ranked number 12 in the world at light heavyweight on BoxRec.
