Golovkin Proves to be a Force Once Again
By Tom Mauriello
Monte Carlo, Monaco (March 30th, 2013)– Gennady “GGG” Golovkin (26(23KO)-0-0) Proves once again that he is a force to be reckoned with as he absolutely destroys Nobuhiro Ishida (24(9KO)-9-2) at the Monte Carlo Casino in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Golovkin would come right after Ishida in the first round. Snapping his jab and landing clean accurate punches he was out to prove a point. Ishida was game and was landing his own jab on GGG. Golovkin touched his body a little and took home the first round.
Ishida showed he was there for a fight and exchanged with Golovkin in the middle of the ring. This game plan was not the best choice for Ishida who has no power behind his punches (Sorry James Kirkland). Golovkin would land some hard punches to the head of the Japanese fighter and seemed to hurt him with a barrage of power punches in the middle of 2. Ishida weathered the storm for the moment, but continued to be dominated by the champion and barely made it out of round 2. The champion is working well off his Jab against the taller man, and has not begun his attack of the body. Ishida looks out matched going into three and it seemed to be only a matter of time before the champion would put him down.
After a very poor decision to stand in the middle of the ring and trade with Golovkin, Ishida is floored and almost knocked clean out of the ring by a huge right hand. The fight comes to a close in at 2:11 of round 3 as Gennady Golovkin takes home another KO victory in violent fashion.
It is time for Golovkin to step into the ring with a true top 10 fighter. He holds the WBA World Middleweight title but cannot get a fight with a top name in the division. In my opinion, Golovkin is way to humble. There should be no talk from this man about “letting the promoters do their work” or “whatever works best”. Stop it GGG you are killing me. This kid is a freak and is destroying every fighter in his path, its time for him to step up and challenge some top name in the division. What he needs to do is call out a top 10 fighter in this weight class, and destroy him as he has Ishida, Rosado and Proksa and put Sergio Martinez and Julio Cesar Chavez JR on notice. An ideal pick would be Matthew Macklin. Macklin is coming off of a Knockout victory and is ranked in the top 5 at middleweight. Macklin would like another shot at a title after being knockout by division leader Sergio Martinez. Another possible opponent would be the tough “Kid Chocolate” Peter Quillin. Quillin seems to be making a name for himself at his adopted home of Brooklyn New York, and a main event card at the Barclays center would certainly be a solid money maker for the two of them. In my opinion, Golovkin is the only true challenger for Sergio Martinez. He is a disciplined fighter who places his shots very well and has a brutal body attack. Fighting Martinez would give fight fans nothing but fireworks, and we would see a true war between two of the most talented and toughest fighters in a stacked division. So stop leaving it to the promoters GGG, and give the fight fans some more excitement.
Some excitement in the Monte Carlo Million Dollar Super 4 when Edwin “La Bomba” Rodriquez (23(15KO)-0-0) gained a unianoums decision victory over Ezequiel “El Olimpico” Maderna (19(13KO)-1-0)after he La Bomba was deducted two points in the late rounds, one for a low blow, and one for a punch behind the head. Rodriquez will go on to fight Denis Grachev (13(8KO)-1-1) after Grachev receives a controversial split decision victory over Zsolt Erdei (33(18KO)-1-0) for the one million dollar prize in the conclusion of the Super 4 Tournament at a catch weight of 171 pounds.
