New York, NY (March 26th, 2013)– Former Maryland Golden Gloves Amateur Champion Cornelius Whitlock, now 1-0-1 with one knockout, has signed with Banner Promotions, and will appear on the ESPN undercard on March 29, 2013 in Turning Stone Resort & Casino in Verona, New York. Seven bouts appear on the ESPN card, including two ten round main event bouts featuring light heavyweights Jackson Junior and Umberto Savigne, and middleweights Brian Vera and Donatas Bondorovas.
Real Combat Media was ringside when Whitlock knocked out former amateur standout Shakur Jackson, ruining Jackson’s debut at the Staten Island Hilton on Thursday evening, January 31, 2013. Whitlock appeared to art slow against the taller Jackson, who had a tremendous reach advantage as well. In round three, however, Whitlock began to find a place for his overhand power left through a hole in Jackson’s defenses. Eventually, his overhand power left counter got through and rocked Jackson several times before finally finishing him. Whitlock, while a bit sort, utilizes an effective cross arms stance and comes forward with an offensive counterpunch style patiently looking for his opponent’s flaws, and the openings to exploit them. Whitlock’s style closely resembles that of the former World Welterweight champion Carlos Palomino.
Whitlock will fight Calvin ‘The Gladiator’ Pritchard, 2-6, 2 knockouts, Toledo, Ohio, on the ESPN undercard. Pritchard has won his last two professional bouts.
