Adama 2013

Osumanu Adama To Fight Grady Brewer For IBO Intercontinental Title

By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent

Lowell, MA (February 23, 2013)– Top ranked middleweight contender Osumanu Adama will fight Grady Brewer for the vacant International Boxing Organization Inter-Continental Middleweight title bout in the 12 round main event of a 12 bout boxing card on March 16, 2013, at Tsonga Center of the University of Massachusetts, in Lowell, Massachusetts.

According to Osumanu Adama’s promoter, Cynthia Tolaymat, “It’s a very good fight for Adama. People were saying we were fighting bums. We put someone in with him (dama) that’s a tough fight. Adama and his trainer Joseph (Awinongya) wanted a tough fight.”

Adama, 32 years old, is 20-3, 15 knockouts, Accra, Ghana, is fighting out of Chicago, Illinois. he lost a 12 round bout for the International Boxing Federation World Middleweight title to Daniel Geale in Australia in March 2012. His promoter and manager, Cynthia Tolaymat and Wasfi Tolaymat of Chicago Fight Promotion, are seeking to have Adama fight for the IBF number two worldwide ratings position in a higher level bout later this year.

Brewer, 42 years old, 30-14, 16 knockouts, Lawton, Oklahoma, currently holds the International Boxing Organization Inter-Continental Light Middleweight title, and is moving up in weight from 154 to 160 pounds to fight Adama. In a bout whose outcome was not an upset, Brewer stopped 21-0 pretender Fernando Guerrero in four rounds in June 2011. Guerrero challenges Peter Quillin for the WBO World Middleweight title later this year. Brewer won the IBO title by disqualification in five rounds in August 2012 when, after being floored by illegal leg punches, was bit on the neck by Cuban fighter Giorbis Barthelemy in a bizarre Dracula like ending.

While Grady Brewer is a legitimate opponent for Osumanu Adama, Brewer remains an aged 42 year old light middleweight fighting Adama out of his weight class. Adama needs to get in some quality rounds to get the ring rust out, and Brewer may prove tougher than Adama expects. Inactivity is never a good thing.

Brewer, who stands 5’7″, will try to get inside on the taller 5’11” Adama immediately from the start of the bout. Brewer has to be careful to avoid Adama’s jabs, as Adama’s reach advantage could neutralize Brewer if his defense is penetrated. Superior foot movement could determine which fighter gets off first.

The younger faster Adama has ring generalship, and might force Brewer to spend the fight holding if Brewer is unable to hit Adama in close and gets hit too much. Adama punches and moves very fast-and doesn’t make mistakes. If Adama succeeds in cutting off the ring and walking Brewer down, Brewer can be knocked out.

Prediction: Osumanu Adama wins the IBO title by TKO in eight rounds or less.
