John Dodson vs. Demetrious Johnson (125lb UFC Championship Fight)

This was an exciting championship fight. Early on in round 1 Dodson showed he was slightly stronger and seemed to have the boxing advantage. He was able to hurt Johnson early and win round 2, but Johnson proved he had huge heart and kept recovering from all of Dodson’s punching power.

As the fight went on it was a back in forth battle. Both fighters had their moments exchanging takedowns and strikes. However, in round 4 Johnson landed a few huge knees, one of them being illegal in the clinch and hurt Dodson.  He continued to dominate the clinch and dominate the 4th and 5th round by landing powerful knees. The Muay Thai skills of Johnson was the difference maker in this fight and had Dodson seriously hurt in round 5, but Dodson showed heart and was still able to finish the fight.

Johnson def. Dodson via unanimous decision (48-47, 49-46, 48-47)

Quinton Jackson vs. Glover Teixeira

Teixeira had his way with Jackson for the entire three rounds. He was able to stay relaxed and had a great game plan as he mixed takedowns with solid punches to defeat Rampage. Rampage took a lot of big punches in this fight and was close to being finished in round 1 and in round 3. Teixera has won 18 fights in a row and is a couple fights away from getting to challenge for the Light Heavyweight Title. This is likely the last time we will see the 34 year old Rampage in the Octagon. His contract has expired with the UFC and he said he wants to fight in another promotion and will not be returning.

Glover Teixeira def Quinton Jackson via Unanimous decision (30-27,30-27, 30-27)

Anthony Pettis vs. Donald Cerrone

Anthony Pettis made quick work of Donald Cerrone and made it look easy. He was outboxing Cerrone early in the round and landed a beautiful flying knee off the cage that really hurt Cerrone.  Pettis was able to drop Cerrone with a liver kick and after knocking him down, Pettis was able to drop some punches and finish Cerrone easily. Anthony Pettis definitely deserves the next title shot against Ben Henderson as he was the first fighter to ever finish Cerrone. He also has a previous victory over Ben Henderson in the WEC.

Anthony Pettis def. Donald Cerrone via TKO (body kick, strikes) – Round 1, 2:35

Ricardo Lamas def. Erik Koch via TKO (strikes) – Round 2, 2:32

UNDERCARD

Rafael Natal def. Sean Spencer via submission (arm triangle) – Round 3, 2:13
