Bellew to face Chilemba in a WBC eliminator on March 30th

By: Callum Meads

Hull, UK (10th January, 2013)Tony Bellew  (19-1, 12 KO’s) will look to advance one step closer to gaining a 175lb world championship shot against America Chad Dawson, as he takes on the talented Isaac Chilemba (20-1-1, 9 KO’s)  in a WBC title eliminator.  Bellew will head up the action packed bill labelled ‘No Retreat, No Surrender’, which will feature a full card of British talent.

A much anticipated rematch between Derry Matthews and Anthony Crolla will provide top class support to Bellew’s title elimator, as the two fighters will be looking to put on another fight of the year performance of the Liverpool fans in attendance. Also featuring on the bill will be newly signed Olympic captain Tom Stalker, who was unlucky to be on the wrong side of a points decision in the opening contests of the Olympic Games.  As if that wasn’t enough, Rocky Fielding will defend his English Super Middleweight title against Wayne Reed, with unbeaten prospect Scotty Cardle also looking for his 10th consecutive victory.

Chilemba is ranked #5 by the WBC and is one of the top fighters in the division; Tony Bellew will be in for a tough nights work.  The fight should give us an indication of both fighters’ chances of challenging American Southpaw Chad Dawson, who despite his heavy loss to Andre Ward, remains an elite fighter at 175lbs. If Bellew wishes to climb to the top of his division, this is his perfect chance. A win against Chilemba will put him in a position to challenge for the world title, but if anyone is to take his title challenge seriously, he must take care of the Chilemba in convincing fashion.
