WITH OPPONENT FELIX VERDEJO FOR HIS DEBUT IN PUERTO RICO NEXT FEBRUARY 2 IN; NEW FOE FOR JONATHAN “BOMBA” GONZALEZ

 

            Puerto Rican prospect Felix “Diamante” Verdejo will make his Puerto Rico debut on February 2 when he faces Jose Santiago at the Ruben Rodriguez Coliseum in a show headlined by the former two time world champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” Lopez in a PR Best Boxing Promotions (PRBBP) presentation in association with Top Rank, to be broadcasted on DIRECTV Pay Per View.

            Meanwhile, unbeaten world ranked fighter Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez will fight against Omar Salado for a World Boxing Organization (WBO) regional title.

            “We have the rival for the Puerto Rico debut for Felix Verdejo. As he won by a fast KO this past Saturday, he will fight for the first time on February 2 in Puerto Rico against the more experienced Jose Santiago”, PRBBP Vice-President Peter Rivera said.

Verdejo (2-0, 1 KOs) will face Jose Santiago (2-3, 2 KOs) in a 132 pounds fight scheduled to four rounds. This will be the third fight for Verdejo, who started his professional career last December, 2012, in Las Vegas, with a unanimous decision win over Leonardo Chavez, making his second bout last Saturday in New York where he won by a first round KO over Tomy Archambault. Verdejo is a 2012 London Olympian, who fought to quarterfinals in those games.

While the WBO Youth flyweight champion, Bomba Gonzalez (11-0, 10 KOs) will fight now against Omar Salado (23-5-2, 14 KOs), a veteran fighter who has face former world champions Ulises Solis, Gilberto Keb Baas, Julio Cesar Miranda, Luis Concepcion and current champion Roman Gonzalez. Bomba Gonzalez, a 2008 Amateur Youth World Champion and 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games gold medalist, is ranked #12 by the WBO in the flyweights. This fight will be for the WBO Latino flyweight title scheduled to 10 rounds.

            Headlining this card, former WBO superbantanweight and featherweight champion Juanma Lopez (31-2, 28 KOs) will face Aldimar Silva Santos (18-3, 9 KOs), from Brazil, in a fight scheduled to 10 rounds in 128 pounds. Lopez is actually the #5 ranked by the WBO in the featherweight division.

The WBO #1 lightweight ranked and WBO Latino lightweight champion, Jose “Chelo” Gonzalez (21-0, 16 KOs), will face an opponent to be named defending his regional belt in a fight scheduled to 12 rounds.

Also, 2008 Olympian and 2009 Amateur World Champion, McWilliams Arroyo (13-1, 11 KOs), the #6 WBO and #14 IBF ranked in the flyweights, will fight versus former world champion Sonny Boy Jaro (34-11-5, 24 KOs) in a bout scheduled to 10 rounds in a 113 pounds maximum. Jaro, who held the WBC flyweight title in 2012, is ranked #4 by the WBC in the flyweights.

McJoe Arroyo (11-0, 6 KOs), a former 2008 Olympian and 2007 Amateur World Championship bronze medalist, will face former IBF superflyweight champion Rodrigo “Gatito” Guerrero (18-4-1, 12 KOs), for the IBF Latino superflyweight title in a fight scheduled to 10 rounds. McJoe, is the the WBO #9 ranked in the superflyweight division. Guerrero, from Mexico, was the IBF 115lb champion between 2011 and 2012 when he lost the belt against Juan Carlos Sanchez Jr. Actually, Guerrero is ranked #4 by the IBF in the superflyweights.
