By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent
New York, NY(January 31, 2013)–Well known welterweight ringer Doel ‘The Amish Guy’ Carrasquillo of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a veteran ringer of 40 professional bouts, 16-23-1. 14 knockouts, who will step in at the last minute and fight anyone, will fight for the first time in his career as a 159 pound middleweight and fight 17-9-4 Dennis Sharpe of Bayonne, New Jersey as a last minute opponent on the Greg Cohen Promotions Staten Island Boxing card scheduled for Thursday, February 1, 2013. According to matchmaker Eril Bottjer, originally scheduled opponent Ibahim King of West Palm Beach, Florida, failed to secure written promotion from his parole officer to leave the state.
Veteran Pennsylvania matchmaker Mike Melendez, when contacted by Real Combat Media, was stunned to hear Carrasquillo, 39, would fight at such a high weight against the 37 year old Sharpe, a super middleweight. At one point Sharpe lost to six consecutive fighters with a combined record of 76-0. including Giovanni Lorenzo, Pawel Wolak, Andy Lee, James McGirt, Ronald Hearns and Peter Quillin. During his winless streak, Sharpe has been knocked to four times, including by James Kirkland in June 2011. Sharpe did go the eight round distance with light middleweight contender Deandre Lattimore in April 2011, and drew with 10-1 Josh Crouch in November 2012. “Carrasquillo will kill Sharpe, who is 0-10-2 in his last 12 bouts since 2004.” Real Combat Media predicts Carrasquillo by early knockout.
