Mansour

Amir Mansour Back on Heavyweight Track

By Robert Brizel, Real Combat Media Correspondent

New York, NY (Undefeated 17-0 heavyweight contender Amir Mansour continues to rise through the ranks. Problem is, While Mansour, now age 40, continues to knock out opponents, Mansour has continued to go in and out of jail. Hopefully with his latest comeback win, his personal troubles are finally behind him, once and for all.

Mansour went to prison in August 2001 and served eight and a half years. He then won seven consecutive comeback bouts. After 14 months back in jail for violating probation, Mansour was released again in July 2012, and on January 25, 2013, he scored a first round knockout over veteran Dominique Alexander in 24 seconds at Delaware’s Dover Downs Casino to improve his professional record to a still dangerous 17-0, with 13 knockouts. Forget the numbers, Mansour is a dangerous quality heavyweight still to be feared. Father time may determine if he can still realize a world title opportunity.

Privileged I was to cover Mansour’s first round knockout of Hector Ferreyro at Bally’s Atlantic City in April 2011. Mansour continues to demonstrate amazing potential. Mansour is still worthy of an American and a world title fight in the future. Until that time, my view is Mansour will have trouble finding opponents to fight in the ring. To this point, the only serious threat to Mansour’s being has been himself. If he can conquer the enemy within, Mansour still has a shot at winning a world title. In terms of obeying the letter of the law, where Mansour is now, his current go is probably his final chance to stay clean and stick with a boxing life.

Amir Mansour’s future is in his hands. Let’s see what happens to him in 2013. I am looking forward to his next bout, hopefully against some serious quality opposition.
