Team Eddie Long’s for Hyland Return

By: Stephen Sharpe

Eddie Hyland will make a return to the scene of his unforgettable IBF International super featherweight title victory over Oisin Fagan back in 2009, but this time he will ply his trade from outside the ropes.

The highly anticipated November 3rd “Rumble in Dublin” fight night at the Basketball arena will witness the former Irish and IBF International strap holder make a debut of a different kind when he takes to the corner to orchestrate a winning return for Robbie Long who clashes with Northern Ireland prospect Joe Hillerby.

Having retired early this year, Eddie the oldest of the Hyland trio of fighting siblings and in many fight fans opinion the most exciting due to his explosive all action style has wasted no time in stepping from student to teacher.

When approached by former stable mate Robbie Long requesting the training and coaching services of the Tallaght favourite, Hyland states the response was something of a no brainer.

Robbie approached me when he was offered the fight with Joe Hillerby, asking me would I get him ready for the fight, my response was an obvious yes, why wouldn’t I with twenty two years boxing behind me”.

Its sixteen months since Robbie Long was demolished inside the first stanza of his Irish title fight against the still unbeaten Gary “Spike” O Sullivan but Hyland believes a fresh start for his new pupil will prove very productive.

“Robbie wasn’t in the right frame of mind against Spike and that was very evident on the night, but we will have him ready for this one. He was always part of the “Team Hyland” setup and to be honest he was neglected in the shadow of the three Hyland brothers, but now he is the number one and he will be given the attention to detail that he didn’t get before, this is a new and exciting start for both of us”.

Having emerged victorious from some of the most remembered domestic dustups, the all action Tallaght slugger believes his own style of boxing can provide Long with the missing link as he nears the November 3rd showdown with Hillerby.

“I don’t believe Robbie had fully adapted to the professional game following his amateur days and we are working on a few areas at the moment. When I was in the ring I loved to fight and I believe we are developing that quality in Robbie at the moment. He is very focused for this fight and is progressively looking stronger and sharper and he will be ready like never before for this fight”.

Robbie Long and Joe Hillerby will clash on the “Rumble in Dublin” event which is co-promoted by Emerald & KO Promotions that also see’s the return of “Big Bang Willie Casey to the Capital City. The bill will also feature Dublin favourites Brendan Fitzpatrick, Noel O Brian and former National Senior Champion Karl Brabazon.

Further details of the exciting Dublin fight night will be revealed over the coming weeks in what promises to be an action packed night of professional boxing.

Tickets for the “Rumble in Dublin” fight night priced at €25, €35 & €45 are now on sale from www.greenjab.ie & www.emeraldboxingpromotions.com.
