Robert Guerrero vs. Andre Berto set for November 24
Robert Guerrero, 29, (30-1-1, 18 KOs) will face former WBC Champ Andre Berto, 29, (28-1, 22 KO). The fight will take place on November 24th, 2012 on HBO at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, California.
Andre Berto is coming of a torn bicep and a positive PED test which cancelled his rematches against Victor Ortiz. Since then he tested negative. Guerrero and Berto have agreed to do USADA testing ahead of this fight. Andre Berto last fought on September 3, 2011, when he defeated Jan Zaveck in Mississippi. Before that, he suffered a major upset against Victor Ortiz to lose the WBC Belt.
Both boxers will receive “seven-figure pay days,” according to Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer .
Robert Guerrero is coming off an impressive victory over then undefeated Selcuk Aydin last July when he made his welterweight debut. He has never been finished in his career and only lost once in 2005 by a split decision loss to Gamaliel Diaz.
At one time, Andre Berto was considered the next great superstar of the sport. Then Victor Ortiz exposed his defense and showed he was vulnerable. However, Berto still has tremendous power at welterweight and can knock anyone out. Berto does not have the footwork that Guerrero has. Guerrero is the better boxer, but Berto is the biggest fighter he has ever fought.
It’s a very good matchup and hard to predict. My pick is Robert Guerrero by a unanimous decision because I think Berto’s ring rust will be a factor. This is a great fight to look forward to.
