Legendary Boxing Trainer Emanuel Steward has died at age 68

Detroit– Today we have received terrible news from many sources and have confirmed the death of Emanuel Steward at age 68. There are many conflicting reports today that Steward was still alive. Now his sister has announced his death. Steward has been suffering from diverticulitis however the cause of death was not determined. He underwent surgery this week.
“(Steward’s) sister, Diane Steward-Jones, has confirmed it to the media in Detroit. He has passed,” Mike Brudenell of The Detroit Free Press said. “He passed away, she said, with no pain. It’s a sad day for the city of Detroit, the state of Michigan, and, obviously, for boxing around the country and the world.”
Steward was born in Battle Creek, West Virginia and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. He was considered ‘The Godfather of Detroit Boxing’. Steward trained so many great boxers and world champions. There are too many top boxers and champions to mention in this article. That was the kind of trainer he was. He was considered one of the best boxing trainers ever. As a boxer, Steward had an amateur record of 94 wins and only 3 losses. He won the 1963 National Golden Gloves tournament.
Emanuel was a well respected long time HBO Boxing commentator and inductee of the International Boxing Hall Of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame. He also owned the Kronk Boxing Gym in Detroit and had another gym in Tucson, Arizona.
He was known for being a quality human being by being involved in charitable work and provided hospitalty for many boxers by giving them a place to stay in his house.Steward will be missed by many.
