Anderson stops Reid: Takes British 160lb title

Anderson

In what will probably be the last hurrah for Olympic gold medallist Robin Reid (42-8-1), Scottish native Kenny Anderson (18-1) wins the vacant British Super-Middleweight title. After a failed attempt at the Commonwealth strap he will be happy to claim the belt as it can lead to bigger things in the future for the 29 year old.

The stoppage came in the 5th round were the referee waved it off after seeing that Reid was clearly unable to continue after the resulting flurry which followed a clean uppercut.

The former WBC champ was not able to recapture old glory and looked slower and less interested than he has entered the ring previously. I quite strongly expect him to hang his gloves up for good at the age of 41.

Anderson will be looking to avenge his only loss against George Groves as a way of gaining the moderate notability he has received since his US win against Francisco Sierra. Groves was chased by Anderson this year and after two cancelled dates vacated his title instead of fighting the Scot.

Regardless, this is a positive for Anderson, who will want to build on this and make his way towards a world title, with or without Groves. No doubt he will be expected to fend off some of the domestic talent, such as DeGaule or Smith, before he makes an appearance on the international level.
