Vitali Klitschko defeats Manuel Charr by Cut Stoppage
By: Corey Quincy
To not too many peoples surprises Ukrainian Heavyweight Great WBC Champion Vitali ” Dr Ironfist ” Klitschko pretty much walked through German based Lebanese boxer Manuel ” Diamond Boy Charr ( Now 21-1-0 ) tonight in Moscow, Russia to improve his excellent record to (45-2-0). The fight ended in Round 4 due to a cut on Charr, but he was taking a beating. He had already been put down and hurt. It was only speeding up the inevitable. But to his credit, Charr put up a good effort. He kept moving forward and did sneak in hooks sometimes that did sting Vitali a little but the other 95% of that fight was Vitali Klitschko showing what was in my humble opinion one of his best fights in a while. Vitali popped out his jab actively as always, but showed some more work, putting a lot behind a powerful right hand that usually followed up his jab. The Klitschkos are known for having excellent right hands. Wladimir, Vitali’s younger brother usually put more behind his, but tonight I thought Vitali worked much harder landing the powerful rights hands and combos then he has sometimes recently. It looked to me a little more like a younger more active Vitali and not the current lazy ” Jab n’ Grab ” Vitali we have seen a lot more recently. And to be honest, I have nothing against the Klitschkos and in some ways if Vitali does retire after this as rumors indicate, I will be disappointed somewhat.
Due to the fact of the weakness of the Heavyweight contenders currently to be honest I sort of hope Vitali stands around a bit longer. The guy brings so much excitement on fight night with his ring walks and build ups. Plus he is a very humble and respectful fighter if you ever spoke with him or even saw him on a video. You got guys like Povetkin, Haye, Pulev, Helenius, the list goes on in Europe who can challenge Vitali and all 4 have a shot at a win. I’m just saying I hate seeing great champs leave by vacating their titles. I like the classic fight. And you know at home he is loved. So yeah hate me if you want, but I am on team keep Vitali here. If guys like Haye/Povetkin/Pulev can not beat him then maybe guys like Price, Wilder, Fury can after. We will see but with congress don’t be shocked if we have seen the last of Dr. Ironfist, Take that as you may.
Charr on the other hand I am still not a fan of. As unprofessional as this sounds, I think he is a bit irate. He taunts and disrespects Vitali from the start, gets beat up, cut, knocked down and then the fight is stopped and instead of touching gloves and walking out like a man he stops and curses and hollers about a call that saved him actually a bit. Don’t care to see him much again. He is decent but limited fighter in the ring not nothing more then a middle level contender but an annoyance of a person.
We may have seen the last of Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko. If that is true he can be proud of how he did leave. Was a fun little fight to watch him beating up another contender. But none of this can be confirmed for now and us at Realcombatmedia will keep you up to date on when and if it is. Keep refreshing!
Main Undercard Results:
Russian Knockout artist Magomed Abdulsalamov struggles with Veteran American Jameel McCline. After suffering a heavy knockdown in round 1, Abdulsalamov shows a ton of heart to get up off the canvas from the monsterous hook that put him there and then rush the older and slower McCline for the remaining time of the round. Then in the next round he manages to catch the faded Veteran with an even more powerful blow, this one left McCline breathing hard flat on the canvas. That clearly prompted the ref to stop the bout.
Vyacheslav Glazkov beat Konstantin Airich in a one sided bout also at heavyweight on the undercard. Airch was clearly outmatched by the Ukrainian prospect who looked very great in this 10 rounder, winning a shutout UD.
