DAVID HAYE VS. DERECK CHISORA PREVIEW: LICENSED TO THRILL
- This Saturday, the highly anticipated & controversial grudge match between two of the UK’s premier Heavyweights will finally be upon us. David Haye (25-2-0, 23 KOs) and Dereck Chisora (15-3-0, 9 KOs) will square off at Upton Park in London, England in one of the most talked about Heavyweight fights in years.
Both fighters furiously came to blows in an infamous press conference confrontation in Munich after Chisora’s competitive points defeat to WBC champion Vitali Klitschko (44-2, 40 KO’s) this past February.
The brawl which sparked worldwide media interest and outrage seemingly tarnished the reputations of both men & led to the Luxembourg Boxing Federation sanctioning their fight, and not the British Boxing Board of Control in an unusual twist of events.
Earlier today at a tense weigh in, David Haye scaled in at 211 lb’s at the Odeon Cinema, Leicester Square. The brash underdog, Dereck Chisora will enter the ring with a two and a half stone advantage after totaling 247lbs.
Both fighters arrived with large entourages and were separated by steel fencing whilst being cheered on by their supporters in a packed room.
As the combatants came face to face through the fencing both camps took turns taking verbal shots at each other.
‘We drive the same cars and we’re going to have the same records, I’ve had three losses and after the fight he’ll have had three losses. We’ll be even. I’m coming for you.
I’m feeling good, I’m excited and I can’t wait. It’s going to be a great fight, the fans will love it.’
“I’m going to be crazy, mental. My medication is wearing off now.
“He’s got speed for one round – after I dance with him he’s not going to have any speed. I know for a fact [there are question marks over his stamina] and we’ll find that out.” Chisora said.
Haye highlighted Chisora’s lengthy criminal record and conduct within boxing as the reason for his hatred of the 28-year-old.
And he branded his opponents’ supporters ‘idiots’.
‘Chisora’s not a nice guy, the fact he bites people in the ring, spits water in peoples’ faces, slaps people at weigh-ins, kisses people at weigh-ins. What’s to like?’ ‘I don’t know how anyone in their right man could support Dereck Chisora, a convicted woman beater.
‘Who would support someone like that? Someone who says and does the things he does? What is there to support?
‘What type of sane human being supports someone like that? Maybe another idiot would, someone like himself.
‘There were a handful of idiots here who supported him, they were probably his mates.’
He’s not a nice man,” claimed Haye. “He’s a horrible, spiteful man and a bully. “The law hasn’t punished him, so it’s left to me to punish him.”
Meanwhile, Chisora’s manager Frank Warren said that whatever the rights and wrongs of the fight taking place, the paying punters were in for a night of “serious sparks and fireworks”.
“David Haye is a big puncher, but Dereck has got a great chin. Dereck can punch and David Haye has been on the floor, he’s been wobbled, he’s been stopped.
“But whatever happens, you can guarantee the winner’s next fight will be against one of the Klitschkos.”
