Brook Dominates Hatton, Gets UD Win
In front of a hometown crowd of 10,000 fans in Motorpoint Arena in Sheffield, England, Kell Brook methodically broke down the game but overmatched Matthew Hatton over the course of twelve rounds to score a unanimous decision victory. Brook was in control the entire fight and used his superior reflexes, footwork, and hand speed to dominate Hatton.
The fighters began by feeling each other out, neither man landing anything big. Brook immediately established that he had the sharper and more accurate punching.
Hatton was cut in the first and bled throughout the fight. Brook landed combinations at will throughout the early rounds. He switched southpaw in the fourth. By the fifth round Brook was unleashing his full arsenal against Hatton, landing bodyshots, lead rights, and fast combinations.
At the start of the sixth, the blood was flowing freely from Hatton’s nose. Brook had him hurt in the sixth and Hatton looked very tentative and was covering up to avoid punishment.
Hatton had some good moments in the seventh, hitting off the break, landing good body shots. He kept fighting in the eighth, looking scrappy, gritty, and throwing punches on the inside. However, Brook continued landing better, more accurate combos.
At the start of the ninth Hatton lunged with a leaping left hook and lost his balance. Brook tapped him with a counter and sent Hatton to the canvas. Hatton was not hurt, but the knockdown was credited to Brook. Hatton landed his best punch of fight in the 10th, a left hook. But he couldn’t capitalize on it. Brook continued unloading every punch in his arsenal throughout the remainder of the fight. Hatton made it to the final bell but this fight was all Kell Brook.
With twenty seven straight victories and an undefeated record, Kell Brook has put himself in a good position in the 147lb division. Tonight he demonstrated that he’s ready to contend at the top level of the sport.
