One minute, everyone is talking about how a rematch between the UFC’s Welterweight Interim Champ Carlos Condit and Nick Diaz should happen soon. The next, we find out Nick Diaz tested positive for marijuana, effectively killing the rematch for the moment.

Nick Diaz, Carlos Condit, and six other randomly selected fighters went through a standard post-fight drug screening after UFC 143. Everyone, except Diaz, tested negative for everything. Nick, however, tested positive for marijuana metabolites, the fat soluble material found in the body after using marijuana.

When asked about this, Dana White said, “I am beyond disappointed that he tested positive for marijuana.” White continued by saying, “It is now in the hands of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.” As a repeat offender, Diaz is facing up a year long suspension by the NSAC.

In my opinion, this is as bad as when Anthony Johnson weighed in at  eleven pounds overweight on the recent Brazil card. By failing yet another drug test, Nick Diaz has officially proven himself to be an irresponsible fighter and shows how disrespectful he is to the sport. This isn’t an argument over if marijuana is bad for you or if it is a PED. This is Nick failing, once again, to follow the rules. He has consistently shown that he isn’t a company man, and this failed test may be the breaking point in his UFC career.

At the moment, we are not sure how this will turn out. He could very well receive the maximum punishment, but it’s also possible that he gets a reduced sentence. Considering how Nick Diaz, “retired,” this may not even phase him. No one really knows for sure whats going to happen. The only certain thing is this, Nick Diaz isn’t a positive influence on the sport and needs to change his ways if he ever wants to come back to the UFC and stay in Dana’s good graces.
