MAIDANA  VS. ALEXANDER RECAP

By: Scott Canipe

WBO super featherweight  Champion Adrian “The Problem” Broner  22(18)-00  defense against solid veteran Eloy Perez 23(7)-02

Rd 1 – Both men come out trying to measure each other. Alexander is the southpaw and Maidana fights from the Orthodox stance. Devon catching Maidana as he comes in with a right hook. Maidana looking to impose his will and pressure upon Devon but that gives tremendous counterpunching opportunities for Devon Alexander.  Devon is the bigger man. Alexander looking to make a statement in this fight. Devon is the consummate boxer puncher.

Rd 2 – Maidana is throwing some good body shots on Alexander. OOH! nice right hook counter by Alexander! He caught Maidana as he was rushing in to throw punches. Maidana is still trying to impose his will on Alexander. Alexander is using his range very well and boxing very effectively. Alexander catches Maidana with a right jab as he’s trying to rush in. Maidana still presses forward.

Rd 3 –   Devon Alexander consistently throws his shots and then he grabs. Maidana is coming on strong in the third round. But Devon catches him with counter shots as he bores in. Devon throws a 1 -2 then spins to Maidana’s left and repeats it. Devon is winning this fight by throwing and pivoting to his right and  Maidana’s left.

Rd 4 –  Maidana continues to bore in, endeavoring to impose his will upon Devon Alexander. But when he does this Maidana gets met with counter punches especially the right hook. As long as Devon continues to box this way with consistency, he will beat Maidana. However, Maidana has no quit in him.

Rd 5 –  Devon Alexander has this fight in the bag as long as he continues to use his ring intelligence. If Devon stands and fight with Maidana, he will lose this fight. Maidana has no quit in him at all. Maidana will continuously walk in with the objective to Fight!

Rd 6 – Devon is very sharp, but he does grab a lot, which nullifies the attacking strategy of Marcos Maidana. Very good action in this round. Alexander hit Maidana with a tremendous body shot. Maidana is on the retreat. Maidana is DOWN FROM a straight left hand. Steve Smoger missed the call. Devon is moving in for the kill! But Maidana fires back hard at the end of the round! Nice drama!

Rd 7 – In the seventh round Alexander is picking up where he left off.  Alexander is dominating this fight and he is looking to stop Maidana. Maidana looks very unsure of himself at this point.

Rd 8 –  Maidana has no answers for the aggression and boxing prowess of Devon Alexander.  Maidana’s hurt, he’s too wild, and he’s on the verge of getting stopped unless he pulls off something major. Maidana will always be dangerous, but at this point, Devon Alexander is absolutely dominating Marcos Maidana and in every capacity. It is unfortunate this fight is only 10 rounds. LOL!

Rd 9 – Maidana looks lost at this point . He is getting outclassed and out schooled.

Rd 10 – In this last round Maidana comes out trying to fight hard but he is totally outgunned by Devon Alexander. Maidana is reverting to low blows at this point because of the desperation that he is feeling. Devon should’ve won every round, a complete shutout.

Devon Alexander made a major statement because he totally outfought, outclassed and out school Marcos Maidana.

Devon Alexander wins a UD over Marcos Maidana. This St. Louis native looks to make his mark in the Welterweight division. Look out for Devon Alexander!!
