UFC 142 Main Card Recap Aldo KO’s Mendes
By: Chris Palma

Jose Aldo was thrust into superstardum Saturday night with his stunning first round technical knockout of the challenger Chad Mendes. The first round was void of much action with both the champ and the challenger exchanging leg kicks early. Even with Mendes’s superior wrestling skills he was unable to finish his take downs against Aldo who showed some slick take down defense. With 10 seconds left in the opening round the challenger had the champ in a body lock against the cage, and it looked as if the first round was going to end without and serious damage being done to either fighter. Aldo then broke the grip of the challenger, spun away to create some distance, and followed with a picture perfect knee, sending the Mendes to the mat. Aldo quickly followed up with two punches on the mat, putting the finishing touch on another stunning knock out performance. The official time of the stoppage was 4:59 seconds of round number one.

The crowd went berserk as the cage door opened and Aldo darted into the stands being engulfed by the crowd. In a scene out of a movie, Aldo appears on the shoulder of a spectator and the pandemonium continued for several minutes until security could get Aldo back into the Octagon.

The rest of the UFC 142 Main card was full of action, with veteran Vitor Belfort submitting the massive Anthony Johnson with a first round rear naked choke. Once again it is confirmed that if Rousimar Palhares grabs a leg, the fight will soon be over, where he notched another leg lock victory in the first round, submitting grappling specialist Mike Massenzio. There was a bit of controversy however, with Erick Silva’s first round stoppage of Carlo Prater, being ruled a victory for Prater, who was said to have been struck in the back of the head. The card was rounded off with a stunning 3rd round spinning heel kick knockout of Terry Etim compliments of explosive thai boxer Edson Barbosa.  Free free to comment and share your opinion on the article on the SOCIAL NETWORK COMMENT SECTION BELOW.
