ROBERT HELENIUS GETS AN EARLY CHRISTMAS GIFT WITH A SPLIT DECISION WIN OVER DERECK CHISORA

 By: FRANK RIVERA

Boxing fans have waited a long time to watch a good heavyweight fight. Tonight the boxing fans that had the opportunity to watch Robert Helenius (16-0-0, 11KO’s) vs. Dereck Chisora (15-2-0, 9 KO’s) got just that ! As I sat and watched this fight I was wondering what round Helenius was going to KO Chisora or if the referee would stop the fight. Little did I know Chisora was going to give Helenius a fight that ALL boxing fans have been waiting for to come out of the heavyweight division. The last time boxing fans saw a really good heavyweight fight was in 2003 when Lennox Lewis took on Vitali Klitschko.

Plenty of action was seen in this fight as both fighters would trade power punches the entire fight. Chisora was the one who was controlling the majority of the fight by making Helenius back up and cover up from the all hard hooks and body shots he was throwing at him. Chisora was doing a great job by outworking Helenius and controlling the inside. Chisora had a good game plan for the 6′ 6″ Helenius and he executed his plan very well.

The two heavyweights went the entire 12 rounds giving the fans a great heavyweight fight. One of the best heavyweight fights in years ! The fight ended up going to the score cards and the scorecard read….115-113 Helenius, 115-113 Chisora and 115-113 Helenius. Robert Helenius captures the vacant EBU Heavyweight Title and says he wants a shot the Klitschko brothers.

Many boxing fans believe Chisora won the fight and was a victim of Helenius home crowd in Helsinki, Finland. Chisora’s promoter Frank Warren told BoxNation after the fight: “I think Dereck won the fight by at least four rounds. When he gets in that condition he can beat anyone.”

Helenius is definitely not ready for either of the Klitschko brothers, despite calling them out in his post fight interview. I feel Chisora deserves a mandatory rematch right away.
