Andy Ruiz Jr. Vs. Anthony Joshua Fight Is Full of Athletes Who Have Been Tested Positive for PEDs

Editorial By Lucah Santos

As we all know that Andy Ruiz Jr. and Anthony Joshua’s rematch has been scheduled and fans all over the world are extremely excited about it. However, this event is full of athletes that already have had a history of being tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). In response to this matter, promoters have said that such a problem is quite common and widespread amongst heavyweight fighters.

A Platform for Raising Voice

Earlier to this, this platform was being used for other productive purposes such as for raising voice against human rights abuses that are being done in Saudi Arabia. However, with time, it is losing its essence and now the participants have tested positive for PEDs is another notorious event. Moreover, this event has been named “Sportswashing” by Amnesty International for its amazing work to reposition the damaged image of the brand. For the same purpose, glamour and excitement have been incorporated that actually has worked well to gain its goal. Furthermore, it is so popular that people take great influence from this event. Many people buy workout clothes that are something like their favorite fighters. In short, this platform has been great in many aspects of the past.

History of Positive Tests for PEDs Of Four Heavyweights Participants

On the 7th of December, there are going to be seven fights that have already been scheduled quite earlier and tickets have already been sold for that. Out of these seven fights, five fights are going to be heavyweight bouts. The important thing to ponder here is that out of these 10 heavyweight participants 4 of them had a history of being tested positive for performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). It is obvious that these drugs make them more powerful than their competitors. If you ever had a chance to just have a trace of these drugs, you will see that you will tear your workout clothes with bulging muscles in the gym. That is quite amazing as it has now affected the image of the event and this event was being considered as the one famous for noble causes. Here, I’ve brought the history of their tests including years and drugs that they were using.

Mariusz Wach has been tested positive for PEDs twice in his career. The first time he was tested in the year 2012 by using an anabolic steroid and second time he was under influence of stanozolol after 3 years in 2015.

Eric Molina was habitual of using dexamethasone which is actually a steroid and he was tested positive in the year 2018.

Alexander Povetkin used meldonium and got caught by the test in the year 2016. This drug is basically used to enhance the exercising ability of an individual.

Dillian Whyte has also been tested positive for PEDs twice in his career in 2012 and 2019. First, he used methylhexanamine and then another substance which is also banned.

Another Event That Deteriorated the Image

There multiple events of death in the ring have also deteriorated the image. It seems like the noble causes have actually been eradicated and there is only notoriety left in it. The recent death of Patrick Day in the month of October actually was a great shock for everybody and it was all over in the news. Such a disastrous issue was never expected by anybody, especially on this platform. It was so disturbing that even Eddie Hearn who is the boxing promoter could not control his emotions and shed tears in an interview.

Eddie Hearn’s Response

Eddie Hearn who is the boxing promoter has been on the limelight because of a series of unusual events and this drug test issue has made him speak in front of the camera about his views. Due to his responsible position, he owns a responsibility to ensure that the participants in the ring are safe. At such point, four participants with a history of PED abuse just have triggered everyone’s focus and concern towards the event. He has smartly given all the proofs and made assurances that this time these participants will not have a positive drug test. He further says that VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Association) has changed the levels of drugs, as they found traces of clenbuterol in the tests of Mexican fighters as well. So, in the past when these four fighters had positive drag tests, now with the changed levels, they would not have that issue this time.
So, the positive hopes are high this time and expectedly people will enjoy the matches. Also, there is a need for repositioning the deteriorating image of the event. For that, management needs to take major steps to overcome those issues that showed great negative influence.
