Lorenzo Patricio Earns Gold, Marcus Luther Earns Silver at World Boxing Cup: China 2026

GUIYANG CITY, China (June 20, 2026) – The USA Boxing Elite High Performance Team concluded its run at the World Boxing Cup: China 2026 on Sunday in Guiyang City, China. Lorenzo Patricio and Marcus Luther each earned a medal on the final day of competition, with Patricio capturing his second international medal of 2026 and Luther securing the first international medal of his career. Patricio closed the tournament with a gold medal in the 55-kilogram division, while Luther finished his tournament with a silver medal in the 65-kilogram division.

Patricio concluded a dominant week in China for his first elite international gold medal, and did so with five wins, four of which came by unanimous decision. Sunday’s gold-medal victory came against China’s Jiamao Zhang, as Patricio earned a 5-0 unanimous decision win. After claiming the opening round 4-1, Patricio never looked back, winning the second round 4-1 and the final round 5-0.

Patricio closed the tournament with three consecutive unanimous decision victories to secure his first elite international gold medal and the third international gold medal of his career. Patricio represented Team USA on USA Boxing’s Youth High Performance Team in 2024 and 2025, winning gold at the 2024 World Boxing U19 Championships and the 2025 Brandenburg Cup.

Team USA also saw Marcus Luther compete on Sunday against France’s Hugo Grau in the 65-kilogram title bout. Luther battled Grau through three competitive rounds of Olympic-style boxing but came up short by a 5-0 decision. Luther secured a silver medal in China, marking his first elite international medal in the process.

Luther’s silver-medal run included four victories, highlighted by three unanimous decision wins and a 3-2 victory over Brazil’s 2025 World Boxing Championships silver medalist, Yuri Falcao.

Following Patricio and Luther’s medal runs, the USA Boxing Elite High Performance Team will turn its attention to the Pan American Elite Continental Championships in October in Puebla, Mexico.

At the World Boxing Cup: China 2026, USA Boxing will be led by Head Coach Billy Walsh (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and assisted by Elite High Performance Coach Nikki Burleson (Oklahoma City, Okla.) and Billy Rafalko (Philadelphia, Pa.)

GUIYANG CITY, China (June 20, 2026) – Lorenzo Patricio (55 kilograms) and Marcus Luther (65 kilograms) headlined day six at the World Boxing Cup: China 2026 Tournament in Guiyang City, China, for the USA Boxing Elite High Performance Team. The two American standouts secured spots in Sunday’s gold-medal bouts with semifinal victories on Saturday, Patricio in the 55-kilogram division and Luther in the 65-kilogram division. There will be two competition sessions on Sunday, the final day of tournament contention in China. Patricio squared off against India’s Nikhil Nikhil in the 55-kilogram semifinals and continued his impressive run in China.

The Hawaii native lost the first round 4-1, but Patricio came out hot in the second round and dominated the final two rounds, winning the second round 5-0 and the third round 4-1, earning his third unanimous decision victory in China and punching his ticket into the finals.

Patricio will look to capture his first gold medal of 2026 and the third international gold medal of his career. He will face China’s Jiamao Zhang on Sunday, in Session 2, Ring A, Bout 10, beginning at approximately 8:45 a.m. ET.

Like Patricio, Luther showed his resilience after dropping the opening round 4-1. The Washington, D.C., native responded by dominating the final two rounds. Luther controlled the final two rounds, winning each frame 5-0 to secure his third unanimous decision victory in China and earn a spot in the World Boxing Cup: China 2026 finals.

Luther will look to capture the first international gold medal of his career and will face France’s Hugo Grau on Sunday in Session 2, Ring A, Bout 3, beginning at approximately 7 a.m. ET.
