By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
Ciudad Delgado, El Salvador (November 25th, 2017)– Undefeated welterweight Salvadorian boxer Francisco ‘Panera’ Ruiz died on Thursday November 24, 2017, only five days after getting knocked down four times and knocked out in the eighth round of a Salvadorian national title bout by Ricardo ‘El Diamante’ Cortez. His head hit the canvas hard after the final knockdown. Ruiz got up, but did not recovered, and quickly lapsed into unconsciousness at the El Cifco Convention center in San Salvador.
Ruiz was 3-0, which was a bit premature to be going into an eight round pro bout against Cortez, another unbeaten boxer at 4-0-1. Ruiz was appearing on the World Boxing Association ‘KO to Drugs’ card. The WBA is paying his funeral expenses. In a hospital controversy, Ruiz was transported to a local hospital which had no neurosurgeon, then transported to a different hospital. Ruiz, of Ciudad Delgado, El Salvador, who turned pro earlier this year and owned a motorcycle shop, was taken off life support by his family at Rosales Hospital in San Salvador when it was determined he could not recover.
