Kovalev crushes mandatory challenger in 3 Rounds

Las Vegas, Nevada (July 26, 2015)- Sergey “The Krusher” Kovalev (28-0-1, 25 KO’s) destroys Nadjib Mohammedi (37-4, 22 KO’s) in a mandatory title defense, at the Mandalay Bay Casino, in Las Vegas.
The reigning light heavyweight WBA, IBF, WBO champion, defended his title against the French-Mohammedi. Mohammedi, who did not live up to his own expectations, came into the ring in search of a huge upset. Kovalev’s power and boxing ability showed Mohammedi -from the first bell in the first round- he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Kovalev came in and delivered his crushing right hand. Mohammedi quickly experience the devastating power of Kovalev, which forced to clinch his way to end the first round.
When the second round started, Kovalev pushed forward to force Mohammedi to fight back. Kovalev used his jab to set up his right hand and successfully put Mohammedi on the canvas, when he connected on the temple, with 1:29 seconds left to end the round. Mohammedi beats referee Kenny Bayless ten second count, and continues the fight.
In the third round, after a one-sided fight, the fight came to a stop when Kovalev connected with a jab and straight left, from a southpaw stance and drops Nadjib Mohammedi. Mohammedi beats the count once again, but referee Kenny Bayless decides not to allow the fight to continue and ordered Mohammedi to his corner to get seen by a doctor, due to a possible fractured cheek bone.
After Kovalev retained his title, in an interview, Kovalev was asked if he was interested in a match against super middleweight champion, Andre Ward? He responded,“I’m ready for anybody.”
