Yuri Foreman Bout with Jamaal Davis Headlines Broadway Boxing Roseland Card
By Robert Brizel, Head Real Combat Media Boxing Correspondent
New York, NY (July 10th, 2013)– Former World Boxing Association World Light Middleweight champion Yuri Foreman of Brooklyn, New York, will fight the third fight of his comeback against dangerous Jamaal Davis of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in the main event of a seven bout Broadway Boxing card at Roseland Ballroom in New York City on July 24, 2013, promoted by DiBella Entertainment. Foreman versus Davis will be an eight rounder.
Foreman, 32, 30-2, eight knockouts, is on a surgically repaired knee after tearing his meniscus and stretching ligaments. Foreman has not appeared in an eight round bout since winning an eight round decision over 16-0 Kevin Cagle at Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut in 2005. Foreman looked in top form in winning six rounders over Brandon Blue in January 2013, and Gundrick King in April 2013.
It will be interesting to see if Foreman, a highly technical fighter with superior foot movement and a lightning fast jab, can regain the same form he displayed decisioning Daniel Santos in November 2009. Foreman has defeated 24 opponents with winning records, and could still secure a world title shot at 154 pounds in 2014 for Lou DiBella if he keeps winning. Barclay’s Center, in Foreman’s hometown of Brooklyn, would be the next step for Lou DiBella is Foreman beats Davis.
Davis, 14-9, six knockouts, decisioned Eberto Medina and Doel Carraquillo in eight rounders in 2012, and is coming off a ten round decision loss to world ranked middleweight Patrick Majewski at Bally’s Entertainment Center in Atlantic City in February 2013.
Foreman versus Davis promises to be an exciting matchup at 154 pounds. Davis has a good defense and is highly competitive. Foreman has height and reach advantage and knows how to use them. Working his jab with good accuracy, Foreman has managed to remain the busier fighter when he hands and legs are good, and keep up control of the tempo of the action. Foreman should win an easy eight round decision. Davis likes to slug on the inside. If Foreman is smart, he will keep moving.
In the preliminary bout to the main event, exciting 7-0 light heavyweight prospect Travis Peterkin of Brooklyn will fight 10-5-2 trialhorse Hector Hernandez of Sonora, Mexico, who has gone the distance with the likes of Enrique Ornelas and Edwin Rodriguez. Also appearing on the card will be 5-0 female super bantamweight Heather Hardy versus Cassie Frost in a six rounder. Four round bouts will feature these unbeaten prospects: middleweight Akil Auguste; heavyweight Ytalo Perea; lightweight Louis Cruz; super featherweight Bryant Cruz.
Tickets in advance for the Broadway Boxing Wednesday July 24, 2013 event are available for $45, $65, $85, and $125 via Ticketmaster.com at 1-800-745-3000. Doors open 7 P.M.
