Robert Guerrero Pleads Guilty in his NY Gun Case

(AP) Gilroy, Calif. (May 14th, 2013) —Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero is the current World Boxing Council welterweight  boxing champion and on Tuesday he dodged a legal punch from New York prosecutors  by making a plea deal.

Guerrero, 30, lives and  trains in Gilroy. In March, he was arrested in John F. Kennedy International  Airport in New York City for carrying an unloaded pistol and three high-capacity  bullet magazines inside a locked gun box while trying to board a flight.

He was charged with one  count of criminal  possession of a firearm and three counts of third-degree criminal possession of  a weapon. But as part of a plea deal, Queens prosecutors dropped all charges  except one disorderly conduct charge, which Guerrero pleaded guilty to.

The boxer must pay a $250 fine, complete 50 hours of community service, and surrender his gun and magazine.

The gun was legally  registered to the boxer in California but was not legal to carry in New  York.

The biggest boxing match of Guerrero’s career happened on May 4, when he lost to Floyd Mayweather at the  MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
