With a record of 23-3-1, with 20 knockouts, Chicago, Illinois super middleweight Don ‘Da Bomb’ George, at age 28, seems to have missed the boat in his quest for a world title. ‘Da Bomb’ is a legitimate hard hitter, with a bona fide chance of moving up in rank and challenging for a world title. His best television appearance was a first round stoppage of 16-0 Cornelius White on Showtime’s ShoBox The New Generation in February 2011 at Bally’s Casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey, dropping White three times to earn the stoppage from referee Randy Neumann. His best win was an eight points decision over Osumanu Adama in Chicago April 2010.
Three critical losses derailed all of Don George’s hopes. In a WBO NABO Super Middleweight title bout in July 2010 in Oklahoma, George went down from a punch thrown after the bell by Francisco Sierra. Yet Sierra, who lost two points, won on the cards when George could not continue after a five minute rest period and the punch was ruled to be not intentional. After winning the USBA Super Middleweight title by eighth round stoppage over Maxell Taylor in Chicago in April 2011, Da Bomb George lost a ten round decision and his USBA super middleweight title to 20-0 Edwin Rodriguez in March 2012.
After stopping one time middleweight contender Dionisio Miranda in the sixth round this past August in Oklahoma, George was stopped in an IBF eliminator bout in the twelfth round by Adonis Stevenson. And so, Don Da Bomb George’s career now seems to be at a roadblock crossroads, at a standstill. He should not give up.
The big fight is not necessarily the answer for Don George. Rather, Don George needs to work his way back to the top with a significant win streak in his hometown of Chicago. He needs to reassess his training and managerial situation, and work towards a better outcome. Don George could still return to be a major force in the super middleweight division in the future. Given, the Chicago area, and nearby Hammond, Indiana, the boxing venues in Don George’s area will not offer the scenario for a big fight, but with a win streak comes wisdom. Hopefully, George can turn his career around. At his best, Don Da Bomb George is not just an exciting fighter, he is still one of the super middleweight division’s most vicious punchers.
